I've been thinking about writing this for awhile. I guess it's one impression of what blogging seems to me.
I view it as a community of people. Each one of us has our own house. We furnish it in our own unique way, it has it's own color, own scent, own mood, own tempo. There are many blocks in our village, and each one has it's own flavor too.
And every day, or whenever a particular person comes around, we go visiting each other's houses. We might go to Silverwhisper's house and discuss some current issues. Then we might take a trip to CreativeWoman's house for some coffee and chit chat. Maybe we'll visit DestinyDiva and play a game (or listen to a rant about knobhead :-P), or to GracefullyGrowing's place for a discussion on life issues.
Some people like to go over to Runningbear's to talk about hunting and the Native American life. Or head on over to Lfbno7's for some well crafted dry humor. And maybe you'll come to my house, although I'm not really sure why.
And when a new person moves into the neighborhood, many that have lived here for awhile turn out at their door to welcome them.
As I was thinking about this, I realized that I've moved six times in the last twelve years, and not once has anyone welcomed me to the neighborhood, or invited me over to their house for anything. And I remember being a child in the 60's and 70's, and it was a normal occurance for the people in the neighborhood to come knocking on the new person's door carrying a plate of cookies or a bottle of wine in welcome. Visiting neighbors was a common passtime. But it seems that in our 'modern world', that is a tradition we are losing.
So maybe that's what we're all doing here? Many of us don't have that element of community in our lives, and we miss it?
We're looking for some neighbors to visit?
That's the way I like to think about it anyway.
