  CW:  I have NO idea myself.  Can you unblock the firewall?  Or, is there a place for you to "allow program" inside the Norton main menu?  I don't use Norton :-(

  I don't want to turn the firewall off because I don't want to let any nasties in.  I tried to tell it to permit all the folders of the program, but there are two that it is blocking.  I guess I need to just keep playing with it until I can figure it out.

  No, Ed.  I haven't.  I have been playing with my Norton settings.  Nothing seems to work.  It is seeing the program as a worm when it tries to run and blocks it even though I've added it to the programs I want to always allow.  It's very frustrating.

  They come up as numeric.  I'm about to ask for my money back for the software.  Perhaps it has hidden adware or something.  It's becoming more trouble that it's worth.

  Ed,
  The version I have of NAV detects viruses, worms, etc.  It does a little too good of a job sometimes.  It won't even let things run when I tell it too.  I think I could turn the worm protection off and this other software would run fine.  It's something that retrieves speciific information me when I'm working on an article and allows me to link and create an article without doing a bunch of separate searches.  I can stay in my word processing program and work while it goes off and finds me what I want. It would be a real time saver.  I'm afraid to turn the worm protection off though.  I am trying to figure out to get it to run and get around that.  There is probably a way, but I just know enough about it to do it.  Maybe I'll get lucky if I hold my mouth just right.  :-)

  hm...honestly, the only thing i can recommend, since i'm not sure what the issue is myself, is seeing if symantec has a discussion forum or something like that you can poke around in. i've always found that techies are generally quite helpful online, if approached right. :>
