    tough one!

I used to think it was money and things, for a short while I thought it was being recognized.  This weekend I read an article that quoted an elderly man's definition of a "good day" as waking up on the right side of the dirt.

So, today, success is making it through the day in a manner that I will not regret tomorrow.

LOL- the "right side of the dirt"! OMG- hilarious!!

I agree with you, the most important things are the things
    that money cannot buy.

waking up to the next day and finding myself still alive! (being silly)  casue its a hard question!  LOL Howver I do not equate success to money.  to me success is more an "inner" feeling of myself.

That's such a good question because it has so many different answers for so many different people.  I don't think there can be one pat answer.  I sat here and tried to think of my "pat answer" and even though I'm not exactly proud of it, for me, success would be finding myself in that frame of mind that lasts for more than a fleeting moment-----(recognition?)  that I have made myself a worthwhile human being while I was here on this scary earth.  There may be others that feel the same way, but consider very different accomplishments as having reached that goal.  For me, personally, it would be in writing (big surprise) and maybe in having found a job where I could really help others.  Wow, I need to scour this comment of mine with good scrubbie......

Success has always meant (to me at least) or, as was the ability to carry on in life without the concern of ever paying a utility bill.  With my first apartment while at school, I soo envied the wealthy who never receive a utility bill, but rather a bank statement that somewhere in the columns displayed paid... a utility bill long gone without a matter or concern with thought.  If I could but reach that point I thought...then I would be living in the light and warmth of success... as well, my family.  We have purchased a windmill in November, come spring...success will continues its path as long as I do my part, and help light it's way to.  Thats very important to me. Now I seek to remove it from my bank statements as well. ; ) Interesting post.

success to me has never been about the money, since money's really just a means to an end: establishing a certain level of comfort, etc.

I think success is being able to live the way one wants to live.
Whether its in a tree house or a townhouse, a tent or deep into the wilderness.
Whether it means wearing a suit everyday, or a housecoat, old, soft jeans,
or a pajama top with shorts, clogs and a rasta hat going down the middle of the street. Having a child, or twelve, or sixteen. Or having a goldfish instead. Doing what you love, whether its sitting at the club all day while one's stocks double then triple, or being a pediatric nurse in the preemie ward, or painting a canvas or writing a poem, or waiting seductively for one's lover to arrive.
Success for some means a yacht in El Carribe, for others it's an RV trip cross country to Louisiana. For some its love, and happiness, for some just to have their health is a small success. For me its my children and grandbaby, my writing, my artwork, the place that I live, the obstacles I've overcome, and the beautiful simplicity of putting my bare hands to the soil, digging and rooting and planting and watering, watching and waiting for the magic of new life. Little successes everywhere.
