We learn everyday. This one is for my Aussie pals.....I had to dig a little deep to make things not so easy.

Try your luck - no peeking:

1. What was the first non-native animal introduced into Australia?

2. What is the highest grossing Australian movie?

3. What is the 23rd word of the National Anthem?

4. A cube of sponge cake covered with chocolate icing and coconut is better known as what?

More fun stuff.

4 = Lamington.. yummy little suckers too

3 = Sea... Our land is gert by sea!

2 = hmmm can I peak on the web??? no??? well lets say that it is Pracilla Queen of the Dessert!

1 = Thats a hard one and I am trying my hardest to figure this out, its either pigs or rabbits..... no not rabbits they came with the first settlers... OH hold on is it Camels!

or maybe its foxes, or chicken... nah I'm going with Pigs, camels came when we started exploring so that was after the humble pig came on the first fleets....

    Do I get 4 out of 4?
  • Bronx said on Feb 11, 2008....
Lucy: wow...not bad.....let's just say 1 and half out of 4. Keep trying: you got #4 right and almost got #3.

2 /'' my big fat greek wedding ''??????  AM I RIGHT BRONX??
    ithink lucy's got 1and4 and 3..
  • Bronx said on Feb 11, 2008....
Lucy: hi....you're getting hotter now. Lamington is right but the twenty-third word is 'by' not 'sea'.

And you're right: the nasty/vicious dingo was the first import. Okay, I'll give you 3/4.

bluegum: G'day and WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Nope. The highest grossing was not ''my big fat greek wedding'' . Keep trying.

I'll give you a hint: It's one of my 'very' favorites and it was a monster hit in New York, especially.

  • Lucytorial said on Feb 11, 2008....
hold on how do you get "by"??? there are no words there that can be taken as two separate ones????? rejoice is rejoice not re joice????

Hmm movies movies... crocodile hunter?? (such a sick and totally incorrect and debasing movie for aussies)

hmm what else.... galipoli?? or was it... hmmm hold on hold on (lucy's scratches head, starts opening dusty drawers in her mind)

Was it.... ummm oh damn..... I don't want to cheat... don't make me cheat!!!!!!!

Come on bluey help me out here!
  • Bronx said on Feb 11, 2008....
Lucy: you're definitely on the scent. Which movie was debasing? What was incorrect about it? I'm curious.

Anyway, this is why 'by' is the 23rd word - 'we've' was taken as one word:

    [Australians all let us rejoice

For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
    Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
    Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
    Advance Australia fair.

    Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours
    Renowned of all the lands,
For those who've come across the seas
    We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
    To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
    Advance Australia fair.]

One more quiz, for the road?

What does the following sentence mean?

Someone says to another, "Hello, Skite. I'll tell you Fair Dinkum: you haven't any Little Vegemites because Trouble and strife in The Big Smoke is a Village bike. "

Is it an insult or a complement?

  • bluegum said on Feb 11, 2008....

crocodile dundee??... i got it bronx thanks for the clue.

    an insult

  • Bronx said on Feb 11, 2008....
bluegum: Yay....! Yep, that's the one. I found the characterization to be excellent.

Thanks for the feedback - I was just formulating something with improvised Australian slang. Ha-ha.
  • bluegum said on Feb 11, 2008....
yeah aussie slang is another language if two mates meet on monday and one says how was the weekend ..the reply great mate spine bashed ,ripped a few tops threw some road kill on the barbie nearly lost a weight for looking at the white pointers next door ,yeah i had a good one
Mates reply meant- rested most of the weekend, cooked some meat on the barbaque, nearly lost a testicle for looking at the breasts of the woman next door as she was sun baking and wife caught me and it was a good weekend..
Hello skite-means know all. I'll tell you fair dinkum- means truthfully. You haven't any little vegemites- means have no children. Because  trouble and strife- means your wife. In the big smoke is a village bike- means in town everybody is bonking your wife.
  • Bronx said on Feb 15, 2008....
bluegum: ha-ha....wow! And I was just stringing together a few words and phrases. Thanks for making new sense of it all.

I love Australian slang! Wish I could learn some more or take a long holiday Downunder sometime.
  • Lucytorial said on Feb 15, 2008....
fair dinkum eh? well chuck us a stubbie mate and we'll celebrate with a good old barbie and a bit a cricket eh?
  • Bronx said on Feb 26, 2008....
Lucy: Hi. A stubbie or cricket I don't get but that barbie sounds quite tasty. Deal! ;) Ha-ha...what have I gotten myself into?
