Oh joy. All that made for an interesting commute home this afternoon. I think my nerves were stretched to the breaking point by the time my 25 minute commute took me an hour and a half.

I love the morons on the interstate driving SUVs who think they can still go 75 in the freezing rain/snow. I had about three of them go flying past me in my SUV doing 40. I passed them about a mile later; all three had spun out into the median in separate locations.

Did u flip them a bird as you zipped past them?! I battle the urge to do that everytime i drive by a nutcase! But i'm working on being decent now! Haha!

We have the same weather here, ughh!

zayda- I used to think that in bad weather like you describe, it would be more dangerous in areas were people weren't used to it, like here. But people here slow to a crawl in a heavy sprinkle, probably because they are so unsure of themselves.

When I lived in the Midwest with regular bad weather is where I saw the spin outs and accidents, perhaps because they were over confident.

Or maybe it was just due to more bad weather. I don't know- we have our idiots too.

You know what's sad? Here in the East coast...I was dying of heat. It felt so damn hot...
  • skald said on Feb 07, 2008....
Yes you can say that again this weather. It is crazy everywhere. I am sorry about the people who died yesterday

That happened to us in NE OH on the way home from a friend's wedding at the beginning of what turned out to be 2 1/2 feet of snow.  Some jerk blew by us, and some time later, we passed him with his front end kissing a concrete barrier.  It's probably not nice to laugh, but the Nelson laugh is so appropriate in those situations.

It used to frustrate my husband to no end when he'd investigate a crash on a snow-and/or-ice-covered road.

Mr. Eilan: How fast were you going?

    Moron: Uh, about 60?

Mr. Eilan: There's two inches of snow on the road.

    Moron: The speed limit's 60?
  • Zayda said on Feb 07, 2008....
Eilan: Yep, because the speed limit of 60 means 60 under any weather conditions, don'tcha know?!?! ;)

Skald: Ugh, yeah the weather. I can't wait for winter to be over. Luckily there were no traffic fatalities here. All the tornadoes earlier in the week in Tennessee devastated towns, damaged buildings on a college campus, and took several lives.

TBS:  Three days ago it was in the 50s here. It's back in the 30s and supposed to dip to the 20s and single digits over the weekend.

Beyond:   Honestly, I think it's due to people thinking that their SUV somehow makes them impervious to the weather or invincible.

Pickers: It's lovely isn't it?  At least for now, for today, we have no precipitation.   I think we are supposed to get some more either this evening or early tomorrow morning.

Peanut:  Nope, I was too busy paying attention to the road and my driving to worry about flipping them the bird.  I just kind of shook my head.  If they had been off on the shoulder, I would have stopped to make sure everyone was okay.  But they were in the median in the middle and I was on the outside lane.   And thanks for explaining to Blue what a flipping the bird was.

Blue:  The forks?  I think spinning into the median was their karmic justice for doing 60+ down a snow and ice covered road.

Sweet:  I don't think that sounds mean really; I mean, honestly, they could use the common sense that God gave them and slow down.

Lucy:  Indeed it most likely is justice.  I'm just glad they didn't hit anyone else in the process.

  • Eilan said on Feb 07, 2008....
Yup.  Some people think the speed limit is an obligation.

The weather has been really bad all over the U.S. this winter...it is awful!!  I for one can't wait for spring!! Glad you stayed safe out there with those crazies!
  • moonriver said on Feb 07, 2008....
oh to be so lucky and be living in more temperate winter climes. but i sympathize with you. when our own monsoon months arrive, i'll ask for your sympathies in turn... :-)

  • Zayda said on Feb 07, 2008....
    LOL. Eilan. You aren't kidding.

Quietone--Yeah, the weather has been kind of crazy everywhere.

Moon: And you shall have my sympathies when your monsoon season hits, dear.

I checked my weather forecast and it appears that we get 2 days out of 10 without a chance of snow. I have to tell you I am a bit sick of the white stuff. Now, the kids think snow means possibilities...of no school. Aww, to be a kid again.
Luckily we don't get too many crazy drivers, especially during rush...because you can't go past 10 miles an hour anyway.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Feb 07, 2008....
Zayda:  Same thing happens here.  Wonder if it's an ego thing...shortly followed by a reality check  during spin outs!

every time the roads are bad i always look out for SUV drivers, many of whom IMX tend to think that being big and heavy make them immune to the laws of physics.

thank you for not being one of 'em, super z. :>

Finally it's raining, and fire season has come to an end!...
It's raining! I love the sound that the rain makes on our roof. People drive like fools on the roads, and truckers speed. They make their own storms behind them, I want to go for a walk in the rain today. No one is on soulcast in the weekends anyway....
What does this month mean to you? For me it's the true first month of fall and full of birthdays. XMAS is just around the corner and gas prices will go up again. I don't care to mush for the cold winter months, but love the snow! Anyway....it's October a...
