Who's reading Holly-Go-Lightly (70):
Which kind of family did you grow up in? Big family or small family? Were you an only child or what was your birth position among siblings? Pros/cons? what kind of family will you/have you created?

I am the oldest of six children. 3 boys, 3 girls. One sister is deceased, and the 2 youngest boys are my half brothers and are the same age as my own sons. Ha.
Although my growing up in a large family mostly entailed responsibiity for the others (since I
was the oldest), I like having a big family. There's always someone to play with, or go to.
And there's safety in numbers!!  I have 3 children of my own, and I still think that if I had been in a happy marriage, I probably would have had maybe 1 or 2 more.
I grew up in a mostly Catholic neighborhood, with a few Mormon families as well, so everybody we knew had a big family! It was so fun for all of us kids to have whole families of kids to join ranks with. There was one girl on the block that was an only, and she naturally gravitated to us all. We kind of felt sorry for her because she had no one "built-in" to her family to have fun with.

What about you guys??  :)

I have an older sister and a younger brother.  I liked having syblings.  It would have been fun to have more.  I myself had two, one of each.

Being the middle kid did have it's challenges.  I was never the first to do things, had to suffer through a lot of hand me downs, etc.  It served me well in my adult life since I know what it takes to give and take to get along in a group.

I have a younger brother; my husband's the third of four boys. My ex is the oldest of eight (six living). I have two daughters with my ex and two daughters with my husband.

My brother and I didn't get along that well; even now, I don't go out of my way to seek out his company. Maybe it's a "grass is always greener" thing, but I always wanted a sister.

    i have 3 sisters and a brother.
both my parents came from families of 10 children.
i have an uncle with 10, and aunt with 8, and lots of others with 4 or 5....so i come from a large family.

i wouldn't trade it for the world.

i grew up in a small family. i am an only child. it sucks.
if i ever have my own family, i'd insist on having one more sizeable.

How cool is that, ed and I both are the middle child in our families.  I have two older and two younger.  Hi Holly!

    Hey, Holly! :)

I'm the older child of two (younger brother). So far, my family is shaping up the same way - my daughter is almost two years older than my son. I'd like to add one more (adopted) at some later point, but I think that's about as large as my family will get.

I have oodles of cousins, and I loved every huge gathering as a kid, so I think there's definitely something to be said for large families - I just don't know that I'll contribute five kids like my Nana did to make that happen! ;-)

    Hi to everyone!
Sure was nice to read all your smiling faces!!
I'm doing well, have been doing some freelancing
for my bread & butter, you know...just 'til I get rich
    and famous! ;)
Wow~ there sure are alot of "middles" in the group.
My oldest son is the "middle" in our family, and I've
talked to him over the years about how it feels to be
the middle child. I was hoping he wasn't feeling some
of the feelings that classically define the middle one.
But, no, he loves being the middle! When my kids were
little, he made up a saying about being the middle which
we still joke about to this day. He said, "Mom, I love being
the middle kid...cuz I'm the meat!" huh? between the oldest
slice of bread, and the youngest slice of bread,he is the meat
    of our family sandwich!! heehee
    What a great kid.
    ((((((HUGS)))))) to you all!
