Today, Feb. 1st, is National Wear Red Day in an effort to raise awareness about and to encourage preventative health care for heart disease/stroke in women. (I'd meant to post this last night, darnit.)
Some quick facts:
Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in America.
Cardiovascular diseases kill more women than the next 16 causes of death combined - almost twice as many as all forms of cancer.
Every year (since 1984, at least), more women than men die of heart disease.
And yet...women are less likely to recognize the signs that all is not well, less likely to report anything to their doctors, and are less likely to be taken seriously (especially true of women under fifty).
Consider adding some red to your outfit today.
