"Do you think that philosophy is an activity for old men in sandals with long white beards? Or people who sit under trees and wait to be struck on the head by apples? If so, then you owe it to yourself to explore the insights"

What is your philosophy?

i studied a little philosophy in school, once upon a time. my take on philosophy is that the pursuit of why--a question that philosophy seeks to address--is a more important question to answer than how, which i think science seeks to answer. :>

I am enjoying your posts. :)

I did a unit of Philosophy at degree level.

I think it is very useful in teaching practical critical thinking skills.

As for my philosophy, that is another subject entirely. :)

"Intentions are everything." If you shoot at a man you dislike and kill the thief that was about to beat him over the head for his money, you have still done a bad thing. If you throw a life preserver to a drowning friend and it strikes her on the head killing her outright, you have still done a good thing.

My philosophy is the "golden rule".  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

mine is very similar to mamie's .......that in the end, all that really matters is that you have loved and been loved.

day to day my philosophy is to let my actions speak for themselves.
and along the way, to try my best not to cause harm.

I find philosophy books to be unreadable. I bought a book called The Lifetime Reading Plan by Clifton Fadiman, of Book of the Month Club and Encyclopedia Brittanica. I read all of the books Clifton recommended in the novels section, but I couldn't get through any of his philosophy recommendations. I found them ponderous and boring. I would hate a college course in philosophy. I'd just want those old turds to shut up. They aren't even smart, for the most part, just overrated and full of hot air. Bunch of baloney. Let the scholastics tell you what's good, and see what you get stuck with. You may have a PhD, but that sure doesn't mean you have a lick of sense. Most of the PhDs I know were just professional students learning how to bullshit in a scholastic fashion, no smarter than the gas station attendant. Did you know that Hitler's strongest supporters in Germany were the most highly educated members of German society, and particularly teachers and doctors? That is the truth. I've read several of his biographies, and that tidbit is contained in one of them.

Follow the ten commandments and you can't go wrong. Trouble is, actually living them can be hell. No offense to anyone.

My philosophy? That while many things are real and many things influence each one of us ,the thing that should influence us most of all is love because it is manifested in such things as tolerance, empathy and compassion. If these things are lacking in us,then we ourselves are lacking in humanity.--- IMHO :-)
