With a letter of introduction Lola leaves prince Heinrich after having spent four days there and after some scandals.
She arrives in Dresden and is engaged at a theatre there. But the Dresdners are more into opera than dance.
She leaves for Berlin also with a letter of introduction and dances both in theatres on Unter den Linden and on Genarmenmarkt.
At first she is well received but then people start to say that all her dances are the same.
She dances for the king, Friedrich Wilhem iv and his guest czar Nicholas l in Potsdam.
There are fine ladies there and she is well received by both by them and the men.
Here is a sample of what has been written and said about Lola. She told stories here self and they were entertaining.
In October 1846, the king was sitting quietly in his chamber, suddenly the door flew open and through it rushed a dazzlingly beautiful woman.
Before he could utter a word this fabulous creature revealed a glittering stiletto raised ceremoniously above her head. History waited. Was it intended for the monarch or the ladies own exquisite person ? Slowly she lowered the dagger to her boson and with a quick motion ripped open the front of her dress, neck to waist, revealing to the dazzled monarch “ two heaving hills of snow”
The truth of this I don’t know but Lola had daggers and was quick with them if she thought she was provoked.
Lola said that she had asked for water as she was performing for the king but as the etiquette of the court did not allow an artist to drink or eat in the pretence of Royalty she was told she could not have any. But she said she was so thirsty.
She began to storm and said she would not go on if she did not get water.
Duke Michael brother of the king, went to the king and said little Lola was dying of thirst and the king sent for water.
More later.
