****Updated info on Photo access**** oh, ok, so these pictures were from this Time photo essay with restricted copying. I am amazed that I found the exact pictures...

Here is the text that so moved me today. I hope you think it was worth the wait!

I heard a story of a man on business

Whom I will never know

God wanted me to hear his story.

He was head of security at a company that had invited the remaining members of a company who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their office space.

With his voice full of awe, he told the stories of why these people were alive and their counterparts were dead.

All the stories were just little things.

You might know about the employee who got in late that day because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring the donuts.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning. He took the various means to get to work, but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a band aid. That is why he is alive.

So now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing phone….all the little things that annoy me….I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this moment.

May God continue to bless you with all these annoying little things.

A tiny voice inside. God talks to you through the Holy Spirit.

There are no coincidences.

It’s God.

He knows the desires of your heart. Do you think you read this by chance?

Glad to see it wasn't just me, as I had just had a recent "Dell update"--I thought I had messed up somewhere!

I'm still getting the same thing as skald.
  • quietone said on Jan 30, 2008....
nope, can't get it either mamie... guess no mail for us! LOL
  • evil_twin said on Jan 30, 2008....
Mamie, with a file like a Power Point presentation, you'd have to upload it somewhere to a web server. Right now, your linking directly to your email account and you're the only one who actually has access to that. If you want to share this with people, the only real way to do it would be to email the attachment to them, unless you have webspace somewhere where we could download it from.

  • Mamie said on Jan 30, 2008....
ok, this is a lame attempt at getting you both pix and text...god be with you! *smile
  • evil_twin said on Jan 30, 2008....
I don't think this is a lame attempt at all :-) It works! You know, I often think about stuff like this. How one little seemingly inconsequential thing can actually change your entire life. It can make or break your existence. It's pretty amazing.

There was an instance for me a few years ago. I always travel the same road to work, at the same time. And one day I wanted to leave early because I had somewhere to be later. But right when I was getting ready to leave my office, I got a phone call. And I had to take it. So I didn't get out of there early like I planned.

And it was a good thing because there was a huge crash right where I probably would have been, at that time. Maybe I would have still avoided it, but maybe not? People died there that day, and it could have been me. So I always think about things like this....it's a good post.

Oh I looked at the pictures too. I forgot to mention that....
  • wombat said on Jan 30, 2008....
The photographs were sureal....  I believe that things happen for a reason like this, too--I often remind my husband of this when he is "late," stuck in traffic, or his route gets changed at the last minute.  When he gets bent out of shape, I tell him maybe he was meant to be where he was at the time, and not on down the road..... Those examples you posted really make you stop and think about how precarious our lives are, and how they fall into plans made by someone bigger than ourselves.
  • Mamie said on Jan 30, 2008....
thanks ET, I think those photos are phenomenal...reminding us how fragile our life is and how we might do better to savor the moments that we share. I do think that people use the memory to bring determination to rebuilding person by person, families, neighborhoods, etc...
I am so glad that your phone rang that day! OMG!!
  • Mamie said on Jan 30, 2008....

thanks for coming back Wombat...I KNOW! I felt they were too compelling to just delete the email...I have many synchronicities in my life now that make me smile as I awaken to them.

PS: ET, I forgot to make your name BOLD, I will make up for it here. ETETETETETET!!

I used to work in the WTC, and in my present office I used to be able to see the WTC out the window. The woman across the hall from me told me that her husband worked there, but was absent that day because the dinner she made for him the night of 9/10 upset his stomach so he stayed home sick.

To me, it is disturbing to see so many people walking around ground zero shortly after the destruction, and they aren't wearing any protection from the air pollution. Now, many of them are sick. On 9/11/01 a man on the radio was warning us not to go near the area because of the dangerous air pollution. One of the blackest marks against Mayor Giuliani and EPA head Christy Whitman is that they both perpetrated the lie that there was no air pollution in the area and it was safe to go there and breathe the air without any sort of protection. It was an outright lie, and I don't know why they said that.
  • Mamie said on Jan 31, 2008....

G'morning Grace: I have never seen you speechless...hehe, me neither, but 9/11 does it to me every single time...thanks.

Hi MeMy: awwww, I know you are but what am I? hehe, a little playground humor this morning...

Blessings to you too, Dee...even now we are sitting at the soulcast table that God has set for us, see?

Satyrrrrrr: that smile is worth a million bucks! Been thinking about you recently...sorry to be disconnected, thats just how it is...thanks for doing a drive by!!

Len (may I call you Len?)...that whole thing still freaks me out. Everyone, but everyone should have had on some sort of filter to breathe with, it should have been given out on every corner. Not sure how Rudy missed that one...anyway, my BF from high school's husband was working at the WTC as well. It took me a few hours to get the guts to call her to see...I did not call until 9/12...her husband answered the phone and I started to cry...he was one of those running down the streets....and now one of my new partners in this foundation (forming now) is re-married to a 9/11 widow...she is a strong, faith-filled woman. I cannot help but hold my breath for the first seconds every time I see her...her beloved was one of the pilots...can you imagine???? There, but for the grace of God....go I....

Mamie~ I clicked on the "Time" link in your post, but I still can't look at the pictures.  I mean, I can see them, but they're too disturbing to look at.
The link "Where God...." won't let me in. I don't have Powerpoint

ps:  Christy Witless was the worst governor we had.
