We looked at our budget this week and realized that we weren't going to be able to get both a new apartment and a new car. There was some heavy thinking and introspection going on, and we were both a little disappointed. But we always knew it was likely to come to this, so at least it wasn't a shock. After a little discussion, we both agreed that a car is the better choice. It will really change what we are able to do in life, whereas a new apartment without a car is just a change of scenery.
Then, he said the magic words. "Let's fix up the place. I mean, it's not such a bad apartment, if we cleaned out some of the junk, made some room in storage, get the concierge to come fix all the stuff that's broken, decorate it to our style...I think we could make it pretty livable really."
My brain froze over at "decorate!" I've been thinking the same thing for a year or so now (honestly, sweetie, can we get rid of the leaky dishwasher that's been under the table for a year and a half?) but I HATE to nag or force issues, and anyway I know him. He's got to have the idea himself or it just won't take hold He's like me that way!
Oh, and it gets better. A couple hours after that discussion, he says, "You knowI really need some new pants. And all my socks have holes in them. I still have that gift card to the mall that I got at Christmas...would you like to go shopping this weekend?"
*faint*
