Beyond The Thousand Year Blues

Maybe our hypothetical life was experiencing a bump in the immortal road? Let’s explore the possible future of this hypothetical life for yet ANOTHER thousand years. Why kill yourself now?

Let’s imagine a life-span of 2,000 years, or 20 times the extreme life-span of a modern human.

You cannot plan for such extreme life-spans: What might happen over two thousand years?

3060

In your 1100th year your information processing capacity is increased tenfold by micro implants, allowing you to keep pace with the modern world. Human birth no longer occurs from the womb, and the size of the brain is no longer restricted by the pelvis, nor are the sizes of newborns. Your human birth chamber releases a generation of healthy 21 pound babies with triple the brain capacity of 20th century newborns.

3160

In your 1200th year you follow the fashion of the day and replace your organic parts with organic technology, vastly improving all functions. Complete Memory is developed allowing everyone access to all of their past experiences on demand. There is no longer the possibility of “forgetting” something. Even though all original parts are gone –including your brain – you still seem to be “you.” Form equals function.

3260

In your 1300th year your supergenius children and grandchildren have created vast and stunning artificial worlds between Venus and Earth. Opportunities become difficult for anyone under 300 as the everlasting generations dominate society. The Solar System is restricted to zero population growth, leaving a bitter Last Generation who will never be sanctioned to breed their own children. Endless energy is achieved by your brilliant brain children.

3360

In your 1400th year You have voluntarily “alienized” your organic tech DNA and no longer resemble a humanoid of any fashion. You no longer bear any resemblance to your original 20th-century-born body. There are no longer humans in the form as you originated. Fad, fashion and folly have long-ago displaced the “Michelangelo” human to extinction. Yet you are among the oldest surviving humans, the first Saved Generation.

3460

In your 1500th year The Generations War breaks out between the oppressed “Last Generation” and the “Ancients,” in which the under-300-year-olds try to destroy as many of the extreme old as possible. A battle over Earth is a major climatic arc of the war. Then, the Mars Quarantine is ordered to prevent further exchange of hybrid Earth-Mars biological interaction from infecting the Solar System. You are trapped on Mars.

3560

In your 1600th year the climate of Mars is warming as terraformation gradually builds. Unknown diseases of the hybrid biosphere endanger your immortality. Several colleagues of hundreds of years are killed. However, through personal and interactive communications media, you’ve had the same best friend now for a thousand years.

3660

In your 1700th year the hybrid Martian-Earth world is revealing a hidden inner labyrinth of tunnels and caverns where predatory living rivers snake through the crust of the planet in search of myriad prey. You become an explorer of Inner Mars, discovering new life forms every day. Your reputation spreads across the Solar System and after 18 centuries you’re famous.

3760

In your 1800th year an invasion force from Alpha Centauri approaches the Solar System with the intent of recapturing the ancient homeland called Earth. The First Interstellar War erupts. You sneak off of Mars after 900 years, and are aided by political allies onto a 3-year flight to Proxima Centauri. Slightly over 4 light years away, you enter the 3-star system of newly explored planets and moons a free sentient.

3860

In your 1900th year the Founders of Proximo discover that a deadly plague of hybrid Martian-Earthling viruses started with you. You are identified as a missing Martian and extradited on a 3-year return voyage to Mars to face trial and execution. During the long voyage aboard a city-sized satellite, motivated Alpha Centaurans raid your cell and rescue you. The cure for all hybrid Mars-Earth diseases is found. The Alphas wish to study your condition and you are a captive of an interstellar government for several decades.

3960

In your 2000th year you have been assimilated into and have begun to influence the growing Alpha Centauran culture. You no longer have an active “memory” or emotional sentiment of your first thousand years, but can easily review any moment of them. Alpha Centaurans now control Earth. Four light years away, you become Governor of New Olympia on the bright planet Taurus, even as new technologiers are reaching into other galaxies. For the first time, contact is made with intelligence beyond ours!

Why kill yourself now?

At this point we’re not human any more so I can’t quite relate…I guess anyting goes at this point…so far into the future I don’t think we can guess……..

beyond human. what creatures have had the chance to transform so completely in one lifetime? the butterfly? amoeba? i can dig it but it will seem strange leaving it all behind. then i try to think back on earliest childhood and remembering that is so hard, and not so very many years ago compared to-------------

Are you envisioning the 3 stars of the Alpha Centauri system being politically divided?

It looks like Alpha Centauri and Promima Centauri have different govs. And where’s Beta?

Beta BTW is a near twin of our own Sun.

Oppession by age is a threat we face today, or in the very near future. The baby boom is so big that it will crush everyone else politically over the next 20 years. There may well be a generation war like you descibe here but iot will be sooner than you think . . . .!!

best friends for a thousand years is soooo cool!!! Lol!! I really like that concept.

Nicely conceived, hole. See what happens when you stretch the imagination muscle? Now I want to see even more! Take us into the next thousand years!! The 3,000 year old!!

Your implication that the Martian environment will undergo terraformation (the change from natural to Earth-like environment) presupposes the political will of the people eto do this – as if the dangers you unveil won’t be anticipated. Why would we go ahead and make such blunders if we can already anticipate them this early into the 21st century? Your future isn’t self-consistent is it?

  • HoleInTheCosmos said on Jan 29, 2008....

someUS: Warnings aren’t always heeded, and aren’t always correct. Political will may override the truth. If there’s more profit in thinking Martian microbes can’t hurt us than in thinking they can, the “can’t” people will win for at least a little while. Aren’t there always two or more sides to every scientific analysis? Despite our best precautions, appearances can deceive. It all comes down to trust.

TNP: Yes, that’s the idea. Everyone comes from the Solar System originally, of course. I figure each star was primarily targeted by a different special interest group with similar competitive technology. The Alpha Centaurans are somewhat aggressive and resentful that Earth is no longer available to them. They went away but then came back angry. The Proximans are more “live and let live” isolationists, and the Betans I have yet to explore…but who knows? There may be another millennium of imagination left…?

You honestly think it’ll take 2000 years to contact alien life???????????? COME ON!!!! THEY r HERRREE!!
  • HoleInTheCosmos said on Jan 29, 2008....

checkered, check again. It says “…intelligence beyond ours.” Doesn’t say alien. I’m not willing to claim that there is any alien life of intelligent value out there at all. Maybe that “intelligence beyond ours” is also of Earthly origin. Earth has been around a long time and has spawned a lot of life. Maybe some of it left here long ago and is now out there waiting for us…

I like the idea of taking it 3,000 years into the future. That's when the Mets will win their third world championship.

    helo,

actually our destiny lies in our hands. our destiny is still predetermined meaning to say nobody knows where and when we stop breathing but as long as we believe in GOD we can be safer in the world wherever we go coz only HIM knows our destinies

That wasn't very helpful "anonymous." Why are you anonymous towing such a traditional line? Not exactly going out on a limb with your faith-based head-in-the-sand approach to the situation, are you? You've offered no more than a baseless opinion relying on wish-fulfillment. Why bother? There are plenty of blogs for you to drone on about organized religion if that's your resort.

This blog is for exercising your brain....

so even in the year 3860 fools are implementing Death Penalties, and haven't yet realized the folly of institutionalized murder?

it's WILD to imagine myself without my BRAIN!!!! lol NOW WAIT A SEC - if we actually replace our brains, what is left???? I mean, where is ME?
