i use google as my homepage and that's how i first learned that today is the 50th anniversary of the lego brick. legos are among the best all-time toys ever, IMHO, and my fondness for them now, well past my toy days, remains as sharp and bright as ever.

why not drop by the lego site and see what they're up to?

btw: am i the only person who walks through toy stores now & again and can't help looking at the lego section? and thinking, "man, they didn't have pieces like that when i was a kid!"?

:>

ed ~ I had no idea that legos were that old!  Tinker toys, yes.  I know what you mean, when I see those toys it makes me wanna try them out. So I get them for my grandkids so I can play!

I have a love/hate relationship with legos.  In the middle of the night, when I step on them, they are of the devil.  When I'm playing with them, they are heavenly. =)

I wondered about the Lego logo when I saw it.  Wow...Lego is almost as old as I am!
My favorite Lego pieces when I was young were the windows...couldn't put enough windows in my buildings.   I was a sunshine freak even in those days..lol!

I have been to a Lego store recently and am always amazed at what they can make from those things.  I'm sure my son is coveting one of those huge death star cruisers from Star Wars, but they're hundreds of dollars.

I have done the funky chicken dance after stepping on legos on the floor many a night, so I'm not terribly fond of them.

I saw the Google logo around 2am and was entirely too delighted with it. :-D

DH and I are drawn to Lego displays. It's just a thing, you know? :) I don't remember nearly as much cool stuff when we were kids, but then, Legos were always cool just because. (Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs, not so much. :-p)

What Grace said about stepping on Legos.

I think Lego is a fab toy that one never really outgrows.

    Hooray, Legos!

I love the things, too. Except when I step on them barefooted at three in the morning!

I see I really should have read the other comments. But you know, it is undeniably true: stepping on Legos suck. Could I be anymore redundant? :)

I've given Legos as gifts many times.  My nieces and nephews always loved them.  Of course by giving them, I've had an excuse to play with them when spending time with the young ones.  :-)

quietone: me neither! and hey, i have no qualms admitting there's legos in my home as i write this. :D

grace: ah yes, the caltrops of doom--there are few things more painful upon which to walk--short of miniature army men...

twyla: you bothered putting actual windows in 'em? i just made big holes! :D

u-i: hey, i covet those huge kits! and yeah, even if you're the one playing w/ 'em, you've done that dance, no question. :>

infernal: precisely--legos 4 teh shiz. besides, when you put the pieces together, they stayed. for that reason alone they will forever & always be superior to lincoln logs & tinker toys to me. :>

eilan: i must've been an awfully unusual kid--my legos always went back into the bin when i was done. well, except for the bricks that my brother & i shot at one another w/ rubber band-powered guns... :D

    alyss: amen to that!

jade: well, you could, but thankfully you didn't repeat the same comment a bunch of times... :p

CW: like i said, legos have always been my very favorite of toys. my wedding present to my wife, believe it or not, was a lego castle. :>

I love lego!!!  aaahhhh  that explains why the google thingy was lego!! :-) x
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 29, 2008....
infernal: thank you, she really liked it. :>

destiny: when google does that w/ their logo, if you hover your cursor over it there's a message that explains the reason for it. and yeah, who doesn't love lego? well, except for when walking on 'em? :>
