Who's reading LolaM (8):
Lola or little Eliza as she was then, was happy in India. She was pampered by the staff at her home.
It was a good time there. But her stepfather wanted her to get an education and at the age of 5 she was sent with a couple by a ship to England.
This couple was good to little Eliza but she threw tantrums on the way. She could not get her daily bath as there was a water ration on the ship.
She was sent to Montrose. There she stayed with relitives of her stepfather. This was another world for little Eliza and much colder in every way than India.
She became known there for her uncontrollable love of fun and mischief. It is said that in the church of High Street during Sunday service she amused her self by silently sticking flowers into the wig of the old gentleman seated in the pew in front of her.
We must not forget the she was a child.
To make this story a bit shorter. She was sent to Bath were she stayed for 5 years. Maybe the best years of her childhood. She was there at a boarding school and she got good education. She learned among other things French and to play the piano which she loved doing all her life. She also learned handcraft and literature. She read a lot all her life.
Her mother came to visit her at the school when Eliza was 16 and that will mark the end of her childhood. They did not get a good start and the relationship was bad. They had not seen each other for 11 years. Lola says that her mother said when after they kissed. Oh dear child your hair is badly dressed.
Her mother came with the intention to merry Eliza off to a much older man. Soon Elaza will be Lola.

Lola in a way our little friend from upstairs who is 9 is a bit like that. She is a good kid but can't sit still and sometimes she stirs everything up without meaning to. I sometimes wonder if she is a bit hyper active but as her parents are not from my county and although they are friends I can not talk about it because of a language difficulty.

Sometimes, such children are even misunderstood today.

I like Lola for the spirit I see in her as a young girl.
