I really want to speak German at least passingly well (enough to get by in a shop, to ask basic questions and the like) by the time we return to Germany in September for another visit. It seems only right, you know? If I'm going to be there for two weeks this year and two next year, I should invest time and effort in their language - even though most of the people in customer service-type positions speak at least rudimentary English.
At the moment, I have various manners, a few numbers, and several food names. (Priorities! :-D)
I was thinking that I might purchase some sort of learn-at-home program with part of our tax refund whenever it arrives. Does anyone here have experience with those? Can you recommend a program that worked for you - or warn about one that didn't help at all?
I'm fairly intelligent, but I freely admit that foreign languages are not my strong suit, so "German for Dummies" wouldn't be too basic! :-p
