I hate to disappoint, but the only form of cock to be seen in this post will be followed by tail.

No, wait. That doesn't sound right.

Perhaps I shouldn't drink and write.

Damn, I'm a poet and didn't know it!

Okay--let's try this again...

What are some of your favorite cocktails?

And if you know recipes, they would be greatly appreciated.

Queenie: Oooh, I've never tried one with ice cream.

really? i've had a root beer & rum float, although that isn't, of course, something you'll see in most bars--just the product of my youth. :>

a drink i actually created once that's served as a house drink in one of my former stomping grounds: in a rocks glass, 3 count of citron vodka, fill w/ tonic water and add a splash of sour mix, garnish w/ a slice of lime. very refreshing in the summer. :>

    Silver: You were a bartender?

And your house drink sounds very much like I drink my lemon drop. I hadn't mixed tonic water in mine, though.

You cannot tell me your name for it, can you?

And that float? I want to try one.

  • silverwhisper said on Jan 25, 2008....
jade: no, just a very regular customer. :> although the mrs was once a bartender. you were asking b/c i specified a 3 count, weren't you? :D i'll e-mail you w/ the name. :>

and yeah, that float was quite tasty! :D

Silver: You have a much firmer grasp on the lingo than I do.

I've never been much of a drinker, so I found myself at a loss when people would ask me questions about beer and alcohol. But I've been learning, as I hate looking an idiot.

I'm a Bailey's freak, and currently Russian Quaaludes are my favorite.

  • silverwhisper said on Jan 25, 2008....
bah, you're just a freak in general. :D

Silver: I'm an army of one.

Uppercase, stand tall; lowercase, not at all.

Can you not tell that I am sleep deprived? This and work and motherhood, in general, seriously cuts into my sleep time!

JL, I don't drink cocktails. I mix my scotch with only the air that fills the rest of the glass. The same goes for bourbon. In the summer I might have a gin and tonic but I don't think of that as a cocktail - perhaps because it's not a sweet drink.

Sorry...no recipes for cutesy drinks from this quarter.
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 25, 2008....
LJ: I don't drink beer, although I did like a Dirty Hoe (Hoegaarden pale and raspberry lambic). Before I discovered the bevy of exotic speciality drinks, I would drink straight shots of liquor. Then I would use soda, as a chaser.

I never thought I would like a coffee martini, but they are fabulous.

It is nice to see you.

  • lioneljay said on Jan 25, 2008....
I'm sorry, but the notion of a "coffee martini" makes me gag. Please tell me what it is so I can get this terrible taste out of mouth of my imagination.
  • hotnsexy said on Jan 25, 2008....
there's this one drink, a mojito i think, that i find to be refreshing. lemon drops get me trashed too quickly. usually i just grab a mexican beer.
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 25, 2008....
LJ: I'm not certain of all the ingredients, but I will find out. It is sweet, so it probably would make you gag. It is made with a Starbucks espresso liquor and the glass is rimmed with sugar.

Hot: Mojitos are nice. And yes, lemon drops are quite effective. They've gotten me in trouble.

  • hotnsexy said on Jan 26, 2008....
every lemon drop i've ever had landed me somewhere i shouldn't have been. like bumping n grinding, you know what i mean?
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 27, 2008....
Hot: That sounds a little less like trouble and a little more like bliss! ;)
  • hotnsexy said on Jan 27, 2008....
at the time it was actually totally disgusting!!! man, was i out of it!
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 27, 2008....
    Oh, no!

I cannot say that would be on my list of things to do, either--if you'll excuse the expression. ;)

And as far as landing places, at least it wasn't jail. :)

Supposedly, I do weird stuff, like clean. I don't remember, but apparently I went so far as to take several bags of trash to a dumpster, after straightening a friend's apartment. Maybe I should try that at my own place! :)

  • hotnsexy said on Jan 27, 2008....
no effin way! thats hilarious ;P

yes, good thing it wasn't the slammer =)
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 27, 2008....
To the first statement: way. To the second: Wouldn't that be a sobering experience? :)

lol!!  I like your post jade :-) blogging drunk has produced some drastic effects for me! yours is funny :-)
my fav cocktail is tequila sunrise, second fav is blue lagoon :-) xx
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 28, 2008....
Destiny: I'm not a huge tequila fan, although I do like Tequila Rose. What is a Blue Lagoon?

And I'm glad you liked my post. My last few have been a bit short, which some might feel is a cop out. I've been working a lot, but it is nice to be able to chat, at least a little, after a long day.

I am a big fan of Chiltons.

Add ice to a highball glass rimmed with salt.

Pour in three counts of vodka.

    Fill with club soda.

Squeeze in half a lemon and garnish with a lemon wedge or wheel.

It's a very refreshing drink, especially in the summer.

You will find that some Chilton recipes also call for a splash of bitters, but I don't like bitters in my Chilton.

I'm also a fan of Greyhounds, which is simply 2-3 counts of vodka over ice and then topped with grapefruit juice (not pink grapefruit juice though.)

If you want to turn the Greyhound into a Salty Dog, then you rim the glass with salt, and thus have a different drink.

I worked as bartender my last year of college and to supplement my teaching income through grad school. So, I can probably share a whole slew of drink recipes if your interested in any more specific ones.

Another cocktail I like, but which doesn't officially have a name is

Vodka over ice and topped off with lemonade and a splash of juice from the maraschino cherry jar and then garnished with 2-3 maraschino cherries. It's a really yummy summer drink.

I dont think there is a word limit for blogging :-) at least I hope not :-)
    blue lagoon is fwoooaaarrr  :-)
its vodka, lemonade blue ciraco and I am sure there is something else you add to it? cant remember, but my dad always makes me one at christmas time  :-) xx
zayda have you heard of blue lagoon? do you know the missing ingredient? :-)
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 28, 2008....
Destiny: It seems that drink would scream 'pineapple juice' or something like that.

Zayda: What's the verdict? Do you know? I am not certain, as I have only learned a few drinks, through serving.

Also, thanks for the slew of drink recipes! I don't suppose you know any Bailey's recipes (besides French Dream, Russian Quaalude, Buttery Nipple, Mudslide, or B-52)?

Hey, here's a question! What the devil is a B-54 and B-55? I know they exist, but I don't know the ingredients. Thanks!

  • Zayda said on Jan 28, 2008....
Destiny: You hit all the ingredients for a Blue Lagoon. The only thing you missed was the garnish, which is most typically a cherry; although, sometimes you'll get a lemon wheel/wedge and a cherry or just the lemon.

Jade: A B-52 is a shot, which is equal parts Bailey's Irish Creme (or a cheaper version of Irish Creme), Grand Marnier, and Kahlua.

A B-54 is a shot as well with equal parts (usually 1/2 oz.) of Bailey's Irish cream, green creme de menthe, Grand Marnier (orange liqueur)
    and Kahlua (coffee liqueur)

A B-55 is also a shot with equal parts (usually 1/3 oz.) Bailey's Irish Cream, Kahlua, and Tuaca (which is an Italian sweet liquer flavored with citrus). With this one, you layer the ingredients with the Kahlua on the bottom. then the Bailey's and then the Tuaca.

    thanks zayda :-)

jade~ my favourite drink is baileys!!  do they have the baileys with caramel and baileys with mint over there? its a pretty new thing here but they are fwwwwwwwooooaarrrrrrrr   yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmee   fwooooarrrr :-)
(did I emphasize enough how much I like it? lol )  xx

  • JadeLondon said on Jan 29, 2008....
Zayda: Thank you so much--I've been dying to know that for months. I suppose I could have Googled it, but it was much more fun to find out from you. You are my new favorite bartender. Please don't tell the co-workers. :)

Destiny: Yes, we've got 'em. And they are yummy!

We also have this deck of playing cards with raunchy-named drink recipes (at work). There is a shot with Bailey's called Afterbirth. Sounds gross, tastes awesome.

If I thought anyone other than myself was interested, I would post more recipes. I mean, don't you long to know what is in Smurf Pee? :)
