Are you thinking of driving cross-country for that much anticipated vacation you’ve been so desperately wanting? To speed down the highway with your windows down and have the cool wind brush up your face? Well, you better think twice before you decide to put the pedal to the metal. Forbesautos.com has conducted a survey listing the states who charge a premium for speeding tickets.
The state of Virginia ranks the highest when it comes to charging for speeding tickets. Those who will be caught going against speed limit will be fined a whopping $1,350. The penalty escalated due to the surcharged of $1,050 imposed by the state on top of the standard $300 fine which was the amount imposed the previous year. The good news for tourists (who can now breathe a collectively sigh of relief) is that this charge will only be applied to local residents. Though the sum may appear to be a bit hefty, the state has indicated the amount gathered will be used to fund the infrastructure projects throughout the state without having to raise taxes. Well, there you have it. At least it’s all for a good cause folks.
Also included in the survey listing conducted by Forbesautos.com are the states of Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire and North Carolina who charges $1,000 for those who exceed the speed limit, followed by Utah ($750), Oregon ($600) and Kansas and Maryland who charges $500 respectively to speeding violators.
So for those who are thinking of jumping into their cars and speeding down the road to get to their vacation spot as soon as possible, word of advice, try to not rush in case you end up passing in any of the above mentioned states. Unless of course, you’re ready to pay the price for speeding.
