Emailing: do not feed

In an effort to keep people from feeding me at work I made and posted this sign at my desk.  I love that people think of me when they get a treat, but I really can't afford to put any weight on in the next month.

I got back from lunch and one of the HR triplets had kindly brought me a chocolate chocolate chunk cookie from the lunchtime meeting.  It was very kind, but all I have to do is smell it and I gain weight.

So, have you ever had to find a way to let people know that you are/were on a diet?

Is it rude to ask people not to feed you?

unique- I think its ok to refuse because of a diet. Who wouldn't understand that?

I've never been on one, but every time I look at my new tummy, I wonder.

U-I, I think its perfectly acceptable to ask people not to feed you and to refuse any offers.  They are only trying to be nice, but it wont help you if you accept.  I love the sign you made!!

Actually, that's a pretty funny sign!
    I think it's great!

BTV - I think part of my problem is that I get worn down every time I have to turn down food. (cause Lord knows I like junk food!)  I know my coworkers understand why, but they can't seem to resist sharing :)

polar - It's so hard to turn down chocolate. (at least for me) I'm hoping this cuts down on the offers I need to turn down.

pickers - I was hoping the humor would let them know that I do appreciate their efforts but .......

I'm sure your co-workers will understand that you're trying to cut back on the chocolate chip cookies.Tell them you want to be able to fit into your wedding dress. And if they get offended by your refusal to eat them, then they aren't very good friends after all. Maybe you need to tell them to bring you back some carrot sticks instead of cookies?

I think that sign is great! Here is an idea for you...bring in a box of baggies to the office. Each offer you get, graciously accept , put it in the baggie and either throw out later, put it in the freezer to pass on to another lucky someone. That way you can accept the "gift" gracefully. mamie

ET - I think they really don't realize how often someone will offer me a treat.  It's a big office, and I'm pretty sociable, so I will sometimes get multiple offers a day. (of course that makes me suspect that I've earned the reputation for such a weakness)

Mamie - Oohhh, good idea.  Wait until they turn the corner and then go find someone who might enjoy it.  I can't take it home to Bill cause he needs to cut back too.

    i love mamie's idea!

i don't think it's rude to refuse nor to tell people you're on a diet.  i'm sure there are LOTS of people on diets this month especially!!!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jan 23, 2008....

skald - I think you're right.  The problem is with me.

SL - You'd there there would be, but I don't see a lot of people with changed eating habits other than one of my bosses.

I had to seriously laugh at that one... like do not feed the animals!

I'm on a diet at the moment and find it quite hard to say no to certain things... just be stronger and say no! throw it out or give it to someone else!

Great sign though tee he hehee

    Love the sign -

It isn't rude to turn it down.  I am lucky, I am one of the few women on the planet who doesn't like chocolate so that is always my favorite excuse when I don't want to eat something that will put on weight.

Although I do get incredulous stares from others: "you DON'T like chocolate???"

Lucy - Like you, turning down food is hard.  Throwing it out makes me feel worse.  (I guess growing up that poor messes with me that way)  Hopefully everyone can laugh and then stop feeding me.

queen - exactly!!!  I don't want to have to take my dress to a tailor to be let out.  If anything I'd like to have to take it to the tailor to be taken in.

FG - I am a little speechless that you don't like chocolate, though my son is the same way.

SW - glad you like it ;)  A little humor to get my point across.

I am thoroughly disgusted with myself. God above, why do I do this?...
We have had bunches of posts on food, but have we ever talked about...
On Friday i was working at the salon kinda late. Phil was waiting for me at the bar because weve started car pooling to work together. Lucky shit had to wait at the bar across the alley from the salon for 4 hrs, there just wasnt any way around it : P.....
I'm a hotel chef at the mo. Nothing special, just your usual pretencious crap - huge white plates with a tiny amount of food in the middle being overpriced. And on Satuday we had a wedding, where the guests were paying £2,625 for the food....
So, Iceiss and I are contemplating going back vegetarian.

Can I do without my turkey sandwiches? My fish? I don't know...

I do know that my body is just not meant to be vegetarian. My dancing went down, by GI t...
