Chandeliers are wonderful remnants of the classic, medieval era, as these ornate lighting pieces before were exclusively seen in the halls of palaces, castles, and in the dining rooms of the wealthiest noblemen. However, the rise in the development of newer, sleeker, and more affordable designs has led to a boom in the installation of these unique lighting fixtures.

There will come a time when elements like dust, grime, pollution and other stains dull your chandelier's appearance, and it’s in these occasions that you need to start cleaning these fixtures, as they will slowly begin to lose their luster. The frequency of cleaning these depends on the lighting piece's location, type of crystals and the shape of the crystal jewels.

The Tools You Need For Regular Chandelier Care

For those brave enough to do the cleaning themselves, all you need are some utensils and items that are commonly seen in most homes, as you'll be needing these to in the proper care and handling of your ornate lighting fixtures.

First, you need to have a step ladder so you could reach the lighti9ng piece. Second, you need to have a drop cloth, and some floor pads to be placed underneath the chandelier, to prevent falling crystal prisms or glass from breaking. Next, you need to get a pair of soft gloves for wiping chandelier surfaces. Lastly, mix a cleaning solution containing one part rubbing alcohol and three parts distilled water in a spray bottle.

Chandelier Cleaning Methods

When you already have the necessary tools needed for carefully handling these elegant lighting pieces, you can now start the cleaning and maintenance process. Spray a small amount of the cleaning solution on a cloth, carefully wipe the crystals or glass, then dry it immediately with another glove or cloth. If you still are not satisfied, completely remove the glass or crystals one by one and individually wipe them.

In this way, it would be easier for you to clean the lighting fixture's frames. You may also try hand-washing the fixture's crystal or glass in lukewarm sudsy water, by using a mild dishwashing soap or solution. Rinse the parts immediately in clean water and dry with a clean, soft cloth.

Where To Get Approved Cleaning Detergents For Chandeliers

Many home improvement and home lighting shops offer consumers appropriate, manufacturer-approved cleaning solutions and detergents, which are produced specifically for cleaning these lighting pieces. You can use these by following the instructions written on the package. For those who have classic chandelier designs, it would be better to first detach the crystal from the fixture first before cleaning.

Complex, elegant lighting ornaments like chandeliers need extra care when cleaning and handling, because when the crystals start to lose their shine and begin to look dull, the fixture would look utterly lost and dull. To keep your classy lighting fixtures constantly clean, dust it lightly every two or three months with a feather or wool duster. Ensure that you know how the parts come and go together before you begin cleaning, so that you wouldn't have any problems putting them back in place again.
