I have lost my motivation.  I used to be the most motivated, goal oriented, go-getter I know and since I went through the depression (some of you may have read about it in past posts), I have lost all motivation.

If you read my "goal plan to become a Future Goddess" post you know that I have a lot of things that I want/need to accomplish in the very near future.  But I have no motivation.  I am only motivated to turn on the TV and sit on my ass!

Help!!!

How do you get motivated when you don't have the drive?  This is a new feeling for me and I don't know how to get out of it.

If you figure it out let me know, because I feel the same way.  It sucks and i don't know why, or how to combat it.
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 21, 2008....
While I appreciate the comment, Racerboy, grrrrr - that's not helpful <big grin>; seriously though, hopefully we (you and I) will get some help on this post.

They used to tell me "Fake it till you make it."  I've found that when I'm not self-motivated, that works for me.  Eventually.  At the VERY least, it gets the work done that needs to get done.  It doesn't change how I *feel* about it at the time, but it does get accomplished.

Helpful?  I dunno.  That will be up to you and your choice to try it or not.

I'll be interested to see the suggestions of others.

Thanks Grace - Yeah, I am aware of that little trick, but I don't even have the motivation for that <grin>.  Actually, I have used that in the past and have been trying that trick lately but it hasn't been working so well this time.  Good thought!

I know the feeling.....wish I had a smart thing to say...Somewhere to start would be to do something you enjoy doing (other than TV and sitting on your ass....which I did all day yesterday BTW). Baby steps would be a start....break your goals down further into minute details and work on little "goals" at a time. Talk to somebody who gets you and gets to you. Sometimes sheer self-will is what can get you up and going. Challenge yourself to do something other than your usual.

Do you volunteer? May be going out to do something for someone can help you.....but of course you gotta get out of the house. Try positive thinking....initially its hard but if you stay with it you may find your motivation and drive creeping back in.
    .....I hope that helps.....

    Thanx Cntlvmenuf for the input

i was impressed w/ your plan b/c it seemed as though you already established a clear, well-thought-out plan of action. you already know those goals are desirable and achievable.

so give yourself another 30 mins or however long, then stop. pick one thing on that list and put together a project: resources, timetable, deliverables, etc.

    you can do this, FG.

You ROCK Ed!  Thanx for reminding me that I have it in me.  I really appeciate it!  I told you - every so often I was going to need a "kick in the ass" (even with the fuzzy bunny slippers) <big smile>
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 21, 2008....
you absolutely do, FG. :> now, are you ready to stand up and take ownership of your life? :>

well I see ed has set you on a mission..sounds good to me.... now go get it!  :)  sometimes we just need our inner battery charged every now and then......

    FG,
Sorry, but I'm serious.  I wish you all the luck and happiness.  I've tried the "fake it" trick for years and it worked.  But it doesen't seem to any more.  It's costing me a good bit, and I want to turn it around.  I'm a relative newbie here too. take care.

Future Goddess, I'm feeling exactly the same way lately. It helps if I take vitamins and exercise and get plenty of sleep, but even then it's not an instant fix. I too went through a deep depression a year and a half ago. I thought I was past the depression, or the worst of it, but in the past few weeks, my energy levels have completely plummeted and it's affecting my work. If you find an answer, let me know. PT
  • skald said on Jan 21, 2008....
Maybe you just need a little rest and then you will go and get to you goals.
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 21, 2008....

Thanks for all of the input - PassionTraveler, Skald, QuietOne.

Ed:  I think I just needed a day off - and I am back to being ready!

Racerboy - Thanks for the wishes - but honestly, I want to help you too!  Silverwhisper was right, I already have the plan in place, I just needed a bit of a kick in the butt  - please go to "Future Goddess Plan to be a Future Goddess" post, see if you can put something like that together and we can be accountable to each other.  I look forward to seeing what you and I are going to do and become.!!!

  • Battycat said on Jan 21, 2008....

Know the feeling, when you have the answer let me know :-)

I think it's just the time of year.

  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 21, 2008....
Yeah, Batty - the Grey days are just getting to me....
  • ydmort said on Jan 21, 2008....
FutureGoddess, if you find a way to kick this let me know.  After my divorce (nearly 3 years ago) I seemed to go down hill.  I moved in with my parents after losing my job and everything else.

Each day seems to become more bleak and less determined.

I too was a go getter and was the one that inspired others.  Maybe we can help one another .. who know!

You will live a very long life. Either it will be a life filled with financial pressures, because you find it impossible to keep up with your bills and you can't afford a decent vacation or car, or it will be a life of happiness and ease cause when you were young you got off your ass and did something. Your pick.
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 21, 2008....
lbfno - nice ass kickin'!!!  Thanx.
  • sheltercrow said on Jan 21, 2008....

sam So, how are you going to become a Future Goddess taking Ifbno7's advice? He thinks Dennis Kucinich represents the mainstream and that the media is afraid to share his message!

  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 21, 2008....
LOL Shelter - do you have better advice?
  • RollingC said on Jan 21, 2008....
I know this is easier to say than to do.....but you have to pick yourself up and just do it.  Having a set plan written out (like Silver suggested) is a good start.  Also start training yourself to think in positive ways, not negative, and to know the difference.
Leaning on God a little doesn't hurt either.
    Good luck and God Bless....

Advice? Hum... I haven't left my apartment in some three weeks and am mostly plunked down in front of the laptop or curled up in the fetal position contemplating suicide.

  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 21, 2008....
Rolling C - thanks - got the plan already (check post) - just need to take bit size pieces of it. And I agree - thinking positive will help, but after many years of thinking in the negative, its been tough to change my thoughts.

    Shelter - hopefully that's a bit of a joke ??

I like the idea of grabbing something , even one thing, each day from your list and getting it done. Make your goal to cross things off. I think you are on the right track. I also think it helps to call these gray winter days :silver! It seems much better to me then, like I am not cooped up inside, I am instead cozy and snuggled in...do one of the inside, easy to do things on your list...make some calls and also it has been great fun for me to make a list of people i want to see and make the plans to do that...they may be dates out in february, but they are on the list! good luck, you can do this! xo, Mamie

yow aint you something top say?
  • VICARIOUS said on Jan 22, 2008....

There is only one way--just do it.

That is all there is you are being lazy and looking for a reason. Blame yourself know matter what you've gone through it is still a choice to do nothing.

People that work out don't enjoy it. They do it though becuase they know it is good for them and one day it will pay off. You need that mentality.

There is no magic formula--just action and then satisfaction.

I've been lied about. I've been accused of thinking something silly. I don't think that Dennis Kucinich represents the mainstream. I've said it often enough, he does not represent the mainstream. It's true that I copied and posted a statement from the official Kucinich Myspace guy, and that the above opinion was one of the many things mentioned in it, but that does not mean that I believe every word the silly bastard wrote. It just means I thought his message was worth reading.

My actual opinion about whether Kucinich represents the mainstream, which I've repeated several times on posts, is that the American mainstream is way too fucking dumb to vote for Kucinich. Kucinich is so far ahead of the American mainstream that he only gets 2% of the idiot Democratic vote, and 0% of the idiot Republican vote.
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 22, 2008....

YDMort:  Hopefully something in this post will be helpful to you as well

Mamie:  Thank you - you reminded me of a technique I haven't put into practice in a long time.  I am going to make a list of all that I would like to accomplish today, put it in order of importance and then just try to plow through the list checking it off one by one.  I promise not to beat myself up if I cannot get it all done, just transfer it to tomorrow's list.  Thanx.

Vicarious:  You are right - a bit harsh - but right nontheless <grin>  I don't mind the butt kicking though.

Redfoxz - Thank you for posting a response but I don't understand what you were trying to say.

It takes courage to have conviction. I couldn't agree more.

    Bully for you.

FutureGoddess:  If you can find a solution, I sure would like to know about it.  Every since my divorce and breakdown, nearly 3 years ago, I find it more difficult each day to even leave the house.  I stopped speaking to people on the phone and have severed all contact with previous friends.  This is the only outlet I use to communicate with other people.
