American Mother Launches Web site to Fight British Government for Return of Her Child
She says the UK government is after her because she threatens to expose government secrets. She says she won’t leave without her daughter and plans to go on a hunger strike.exiledmothers.co.uk - January 09, 2008
Carmen Semaski
(PRNewsChannel) / London, England – When Carmen Semaski and her daughter moved to London from Florida to escape from her abusive husband, she never expected to land in a British court fighting the government in secret to win back custody of her daughter.
At one point she says after receiving numerous threats to her life, she decided to flee the UK to protect her daughter. But she was stopped at the border and her daughter taken away.
Since then she has not even entitled any contact in any form, not even for Christmas or birthdays.
When this battle ends, she’ll either be smiling and on a plane heading back to the U.S. with her daughter, or she’ll be starving to death, beginning a hunger strike and end up in jail. She says she is prepared to die for her daughter and justice.
How this Began
The mess started three years ago when she left her husband whom she describes as an alcoholic and abusive. Despite several rulings from courts in the US and Germany describing her estranged husband as “dangerous and psychotic,†British courts continually rule in his favor. Semaski's Latin roots and native language of Spanish have been described as “inappropriate†by a UK judge who stripped her of her parental rights despite any evidence that the child in is danger in her care, she says.
“UK social services abuses its power and break up families,†she says. “If this was happening in Afghanistan the world would be up in arms but as this is happening in the UK cases like mine are swept under the carpet."
She says her daughter is living in misery, nearly drowned in the government’s care because of negligence and a beaurocratic and cynical system that failed to intervene.
Semaski says her daughter is so depressed about being away from her mother, she's tried committing suicide by throwing herself out the window. She fears she will try again.
Although she hasn’t had contact with her daughther and she doesn’t even know where she lives, her passport is being still held by British courts and she is forbidden from leaving the UK unless escorted to the border and she promises never to return.
But Semaski says she won’t leave without her daughter.
Launches Web Site
She’s launched a Web site exiledmothers.co.uk to let the world know the battle she’s waging.
She’s also hoping the Web site gets the attention of U.S. reporters to apply pressure on the UK government to return her daughter to her.
She’s planning to begin a hunger strike on Jan. 17, the same day her daughter turns 12.
“All I want is my daughter,†says Semaski. “I want to go back to the US but I’m not leaving without my daughter.â€
