wow...second ever NFC championship game that went to OT. absolutely incredible game between two teams that turned out to be more evenly matched than the prognosticators ever would have thought.

all due respect to brett favre. that one incredible big TD reception to donald lee was huge.

damn...that pick by corey webster was fantastic.

with all the talk about good eli/bad eli/weather, who would ever have thought that it would be brett favre, of all QBs, who would be so ineffectual?

go, giants!

i'm looking forward to the giants' re-match against NE.

:D

    Hooray! :)

I admit that I don't think Dallas would have played as well. Go Giants! :)

That game was hard to watch -- all I could think of was, it's 4 f-ing degrees below zero!

If someone gave you tickets to the game, would you sit outside for 3+ hours in that kind of weather?  Good grief I'm shivering just thinking about it...
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 20, 2008....
mamie: i can't believe it, either, to be honest!

FG: that was one hell of a game, wasn't it? and yeah, i was nervous when tynes missed those first 2 FGs, but hey, it's all about clutch-time performance, huh? :D

    d6: evidently, it has! :D

    infernal: :D

mimi: heh... i know what you mean. :>

Wow, what a great game, it was exciting and came down to the wire. Congrats to the Giants and I hope they beat the Pats in the Superbowl...

that was a good game. You know that kicker is relieved! Man, I hope they beat the pats.
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 20, 2008....
elle: so do i! and yeah, great game--i always figured it would be a close game. :>

bloc: yeah, man. he absolutely must be relieved!

That was a really good game. I'll be honest; I was torn about who I wanted to win this one. I am happy that the Giants won, but would have been equally happy had the Packers won.

I do hope the Giants can find a way to beat the Pats in the Super Bowl.
  • tbs230 said on Jan 20, 2008....
Oh man! I so caught this one. Unbelievable! And after two...not one but TWO misses, tynes gives an incredible ending. My heart just about stopped the second time. But wow, Feb 3rd...this will be golden!

    Damn...manning and tynes...who'd a thunk it??

    GO GIANTS WHOOHOO!!!

on a side note...Harris seriously needs to retire...he's good, but I wanted to bash his dredlocked head in!! *grumble*
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 20, 2008....
super z: honestly, i'd have been eminently OK w/ the pack taking this game, to be honest. :>

tbs: indeed, who would have believed it? :D

    go, giants! :D

I seriously wanted to smack Coughlin after Tynes first kick.  Please, let's see him get out there and try to kick a 43 yard field goal in -4 degree weather with a -23 degree windchill into the wind and see if HE can make that kick.  When Tynes came back to the sidelines, did you SEE Coughlin reaming him out?  Ugghh.. that is NOT the way to motivate your players.

Then poor Tynes had that horrible hike at the end of regulation!  The guy was not catching a break!  Even if I wasn't a Giant fan - which of course I am - I would have been so thrilled for Tynes.  He really deserved it!

I cannot wait till the Superbowl.  I really think that the Giants have a chance to go all the way.  Had they not stopped playing after the third quarter the last time they played the Patriots, I think they really could have won.

    It's gonna be exciting!!!!

  • silverwhisper said on Jan 21, 2008....
FG: i saw this morning that the pats were installed as 14 point favorites. you just know that's the kinda stuff this giants team loves! brady looked decidedly mortal yesterday and i think this game is gonna be a lot closer than any of the pats could possibly imagine. :>

just think--two whole weeks for plax and the DBs to get healthy! it's gonna be a great game!

Are you having a superbowl party? :)
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 21, 2008....
i'd like to but we've been roped into going to the in-laws'. we're trying to work a way out of being there, though--it's a 1.5 hour drive on a night that you just know the cops will be pulling over everyone, and it won't make for a happy ed come morning.

although i should point out that normally, we do hold our own superbowl party every year. :>

btw, it's nice to see you back as MR. :D

Cinderella stories usually end up with the girl sitting in a small mountain of pumpkin pulp and seeds. I fully expect that the Pats will see to it that this particular cinderella story ends in that fashion. Whatever the oddsmakers project as the eventual margin of error will be barely half of the margin that NE will produce.
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 21, 2008....
bah, the giants have been spending each of the past 2 weeks ending their opponents' senses of destiny. i see no reason the pats won't be different. tom brady looked decidedly mortal yesterday, nor did we see the large doses of randy moss that characterize the high-octane pats offense.

    :>

  • lioneljay said on Jan 21, 2008....
And even without heavy doses of Randy Moss, the Pats dismissed the Chargers like so many pesky summertime bugs.

Your giants will return home from Arizona with little more to show for their travels than the wrong end of the beanstalk.
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 21, 2008....
i'm sorry, the same pats defense that allowed the usually-erratic eli manning to throw 22-32 and 4 TDs only a few weeks ago? the same pats offense that was forced to abandon the long, field-stretching heroics for little possession-type stuff against the pesky summertime bolts?

i think you overestimate the pats' eternally-asterisked mystique, sir. :>

Why is it that New York fans are so incapable of anything but delusional thinking about their teams these days? Perhaps it's just so hard to remember back to those bygone days when they used to win championships.

And as for your asterisk, shall we include one for every team that has engaged in the same sort of scouting? I dare say that there wouldn't be many teams without such a decoration.
  • lfbno7 said on Jan 21, 2008....
I'd love to see the Giants ruin the Pats perfect season. It's a long shot though. The favorite usually not only wins the Super Bowl, not only beats the spread, but generally destroys the spread and wins in a laugher. A lot of Super Bowls sucked for that reason. Here's hoping this one doesn't suck.
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 22, 2008....
LJ: bah, you're slippery sloping worse than a social conservative on the subject of gay marriage! yes, all teams scout the opposition. but the other teams didn't get penalized half a million dollars for the way they do it, now were they? that asterisk will forever mar the legacy of an otherwise great coach, otherwise impressive team and otherwise player of the year.

the pats will not cover. it doesn't matter what the spread is. you need to accept that truth, my friend. let the truth redeem your life! :D

lbf: i like that nobody gives the giants a chance to win this game. monday morning, there was a long article on ESPN about how the pats will win the game. i say, go right on ahead, lemmings, believe everything you're told about the new england asterisks.

Wow... I mean... wow. Throughout the whole postseason, nobody favored the Giants over any team they faced. I can't wait to see them go against the Pats.

    GO GIANTS!!!
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 24, 2008....
    heh...thank you, harried.

i've mentioned in the past i participate in a discussion forum elsewhere, right? i've got a few friends over there who are also football fans. one guy, p, is a dallas fan; another guy, b, is a pats fan.

well, b's been making increasingly annoying comments and last night i got a message from p. as a dallas fan he wasn't sure who he favored in the game until last night. he's now a giants fan. :D

when going up against a respectable team, nobody favors the giants. ever. and i should point out that this super bowl, technically the giants are the road team.

bring on the pats, i say. :>

  • harriedpsychmajor said on Jan 24, 2008....
Remember, I picked Green Bay to take the NFC. So I admit the only time I favored the Giants was against the Bucs. I didn't count on them making such an exciting run out of the postseason, though. The Pats are definitely gonna have their hands full.
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 24, 2008....
o, i picked the pack for sunday myself! don't worry about it, man. :>
