I just found out a really good secret about someone. And it sucks because I can't tell anyone what it is. But I want to.

I hate it when someone tells me secrets because I'm a blabbermouth. It causes me physical pain not to immediately share what I know with anyone who will listen.

And yet, people still tell me their secrets. Why? Don't they know I can't be trusted?

This person even started the conversation out by saying they were going to tell me something and I had to promise not tell anyone else no matter what.

My response was something to the effect that I couldn't promise them that, because I had no idea what they were about to tell me. What if it was bad?

What if they killed someone? What if they were planning to rob a bank? How can I promise not to tell NO MATTER WHAT when I don't know what the secret is?

Of course this person who told me the secret would never kill anyone or rob a bank, which they pointed out to me with a look of disdain.

So I promised I wouldn't tell as long as the secret was not bad. And then they told me. It wasn't bad.

But of course now I want to tell someone. Anyone. But I was threatened with great bodily injury if I did. And I still have a use for my body on most days, so I think I'd like to keep it intact.

When I was a kid my parents loved me. And that was because I couldn't keep a secret to save my life. All they had to do was look at me and I'd confess my crimes and the crimes of everyone else.

I like to keep my conscience clean. It's good for the soul. Plus my angle was to always be truthful, yet spin the offense in a way that made me look better. I'd get points for my honesty at least.

Of course everyone else hated me because if I was going down, they were all coming with me.

I've matured some since then. I can keep secrets now. I just don't like to. I think maybe I'll tell our cat about this and see what she has to say.

I don't think she'll tell anyone. It doesn't count if you tell a secret to your cat does it?

heehehehehehehhawhawhaw!! You crack me up! Whispering: go head tell me! :)
I swear I won't tell anyone in the whole state of pennsylvania! :P
Just kidding, don't tell me, I am worse than you are and besides, what if I am actually katie couric?
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 19, 2008....
Mamie I wish I could tell. But I can't! It's killing me. But at least I'm not the only one who admits to being a terrible secret keeper. If you're Katie Couric, I loved you on the Today show.

*winks...I can't comment because who I am is....a secret! (but thank you , do you like my hair now?)
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 19, 2008....

Yes, I like your hair now. It's a good improvement. You're doing a good job with the evening news now.

But even if my secret is good, I'm not sure it'd make headlines.....

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Jan 19, 2008....
Aha - something we differ on. ;-)

I'm a living vault of secrets...maybe I'm a cat in spirit? Good thing, I guess - people I barely know tend to tell me their deepest secrets after a very short time, though a lot of the time I already have at least a vague idea of what's hidden.

Cats are insatiably curious. I don't think it counts if you tell your cat.

  • destinydiva said on Jan 19, 2008....
like infernal, I am a vault of secrets!  but I know how you feel, some secrets you just wanna share ;-) xx
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 19, 2008....

Ms. Infernal.....I've gotten better with the secrets. Sometimes. I won't share this one because it's just not my place to do it. But man am I dying. I want to tell.

My cat wasn't that excited by this secret though. She just looked at me and walked away. That wasn't the reaction I was looking for.

Miss Diva.....some secrets you do wanna share. But it helps if you find other people who know the secret and then you talk about it. It doesn't count as spilling a secret if it wasn't secret to the other person to begin with. Right? Right.

  • travelr712 said on Jan 19, 2008....
i have a secret too boxerman, i wonder if they're the same? :-)

    Miss Diva....very right!

Sorry Mr. Travelr, I can't tell. Now we'll never know....
  • travelr712 said on Jan 19, 2008....

  • wombat said on Jan 19, 2008....
Oh good one!  I hate being told to keep something a secret!  I kept one from my hubby about a relative of his for months and I nearly blew out a major organ.  I'm often one of those people who start out with "Now you didn't hear this from me....but..."  I wouldn't do that with something really serious of course, but you'd best not tell me if you don't want it spread around...ha....
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 19, 2008....

    Travelr....no problem.

wombat.....you crack me up. I think I've used the 'you didn't hear this from me....' bit myself a few times.

I would never spill anyone's deep dark secrets that are damaging. But little secrets, especially really juicy ones, well, I want to tell someone!

  • crybabylu said on Jan 19, 2008....
It's almost like them telling you not to tell, creates a pressure to tell.  Had they not told you not to tell, you probably would have forgotten all about it by now.
  • MissMimi said on Jan 19, 2008....
MrBox, are you my sister?  Don't ever tell her anything unless you want the whole world to know your business.  If I ever tell her anything, I know the whole family will know in less than an hour.

I can keep secrets, it just kills me to have to do it sometimes.  Cats usually keep secrets, as long as the price is right.

I am really bad about keeping secrets to...but don't tell anyone..no matter what!.
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 19, 2008....

crybaby.....I know what you mean. It's like when someone tells you not to look at something. You have to look at it. But this secret is pretty good. I don't think I would have forgotten it regardless.

MissMimi......I just checked and nope, I am not your sister. But it sounds as if we've got lots in common. Kyle hates telling me anything because I always blab it to our parents right away. I kind of suck, I guess.

    Grace.....that's a cute picture.

vacantmind.....I promise not to tell anyone you can't keep a secret. You know you can trust me.

(hey everyone! vacantmind can't keep secrets either!!)

    Oops. My bad.

  • Mr_Box said on Jan 19, 2008....

  • vacantmind said on Jan 19, 2008....
    Mr Box....You told!

Okay, so I would have told to.
  • Eilan said on Jan 19, 2008....
I admit that I blab. But I generally will only blab to people who won't repeat it because they don't care. If a friend tells me something in confidence, I'll tell my husband, but only because he doesn't have anything invested in the situation and he doesn't have the need to blab that I do!

Back when I used to teach Freshman Comp, I couldn't get over how open some of the students were about things that I wouldn't necessarily have mentioned to perfect strangers. I used to semi-jokingly say, "Don't write about anything that you don't want me to report to the authorities."
  • gingersoul said on Jan 19, 2008....

Boxy.....having worked as reporter for many years i can tell you that there is nothing more irritating and frustrating than secrets........plus, i am curious like a cat so if you dont tell me sooner or later i will try to found out...

But...if you tell ME a secret and make me swear not to tell...i could die and bring that secret with me in the grave....

Now.....come closer...i have to whisper a little secret in your ear...:-)

  • lalalalalala said on Jan 19, 2008....

  • scipio said on Jan 20, 2008....
Secret is something which you tell one person at a time.
  • lfbno7 said on Jan 20, 2008....
I'm going to tell you something but you have to keep it a secret. Can you?

No, can you? You can't even keep your own damn secret, so how do you expect me to keep it. If it's any good at all, I will immediately tell a few hundred people and broadcast it on the net. Now tell me, what is the secret?
  • one.way.or.another. said on Jan 20, 2008....
i have a strange problem with secrets...i can keep everyone elses. just not mine.
youhi know, when you really shouldnt mention something that happened to you, but you just have to tell someone!
and once i start telling people, then i cant stop!

  • Zayda said on Jan 20, 2008....
Well, I know what your secret was now. :) :)

I have to say that I'm really the opposite though. I keep secrets very well if someone asks me to not say anything.
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 20, 2008....

vacantmind.....I told you not to tell me your secret.....

eilan.....I usually tell my wife everything too. We're gossip buddies. And we know that we'll both keep our mouths shut because we usually don't know the same people anyway. It's a good arrangement.

gingery.....you might not want to tell me a secret because I might have to blab it. It's a risk. But tell me anyway okay?

lala.....the secret has been outed now. It's lurking around the pages of this place...

scipio.....that's one way to look at it.

Mr. 7....you sound like me. If it's a good secret, don't ask me to keep it because I'll want to broadcast it to the world.

one.way......you know, I'm good at keeping my own secrets. I don't share things easily. But I can't seem to keep my mouth shut about everyone else. I suck.

girl.with.broken.heart.......that's a good point. That might keep me from blabbing in the future.

    fearing....you are awesome.

Ms. CW.....thank you. And you are also awesome at keeping secrets.

Mrs. Twin.....I wasn't going to tell. I promised. But boy did I want to!

polar.....yes you know the secret now too! I'm not alone with the information.

zayda.....I did okay keeping things under wraps. It was killing me. Damaging secrets are easier for me to keep because I feel bad for the other person. But good secrets? I'm horrible at keeping it quiet.

Gingery....I was a good boy. I had a secret burning a hole in my pocket and I didn't spill it. I'm awesome sometimes.
