I had really looked forward to seeing Max today. I arrived really early so that I could make preparations for today's final exam, and so that I could spend time talking to him. I rarely wore slacks, especially on a Monday. Today I wanted to be a memorable vision for him. My black slacks and my ruffled georgette shirt really accentuated my curves. This was the first time since the last day I saw my husband alive that I had dressed to impress a man. By noon I still had not seen or heard him. I had seen goth boy. I knew the black would please him since that was just about all he wore. Max also seemed to have a preference for it. I thought for sure Max would come into the break room at noon. That had been his habit. Since he was a no show, I went on to give the final and then stayed to grade some of them, still hoping to see him. At five I decided that he must have been tied up in end-of-term meetings or he must have started getting classrooms ready for the coming term. I left feeling sad and knowing that I had a huge crush on him. My desire for him had completely eclipsed all the feeling I initially had for Rex. I decided I would come in early the next day, just in case.
