Most of you who have been reading me for awhile know that I think my house is haunted. Maybe you think I'm crazy, and you could be right. But I don't really care. This is fun for me! Anyway, last night we heard some really strange noises in our hallway. This is a bit of a hot spot for the house because the cats will sit in this corner and just meow their heads off while staring at the wall.

But every time we've gone down there to see what they're so upset about, there's nothing there. But I have noticed that this particular corner at the end of the hall, is always a different temperature from the rest of the house. If it's hot everywhere else, this spot is cold. And if it's cold, this spot is hot. It's really weird.

But when we heard the strange noises, we decided to be silly and get out our camera and take some pictures. We watch a lot of TV about ghosts and hauntings, and we'd seen the investigators snap pictures into empty dark rooms just to see if they capture anything.

We were really just goofing around with this and not serious. But the hallway was pitch dark and I stood there snapping pictures at the wall in the corner. I never saw anything with my eyes. And I took four pictures one right after the other, never really changing my position. The hallway is pretty narrow, so there aren't a lot of angles to choose from.

Three of the four pictures were totally black. Nothing to see at all. But one of the pictures had something on it. Something red and weird looking. Now, obviously I assumed it was a reflection or something, but I'm not sure why it didn't show up in the other three identical pictures. And there isn't anything reflective in the hallway either. There's nothing in there. Then I was thinking it was the camera strap or something, but we recreated that and put the strap purposely across the frame of the picture and that turned out much different. It was white and at the top of the frame. So it wasn't that.

It does not look like anything I can explain at all. It looks like energy or something. It's very weird. But here are the pictures so you can judge for yourself. I welcome all serious explanations. I'm not saying it's a ghosty thing, but I'm not saying it's not either. I can't tell what it is. What do you think?

Here's the original picture:

Here's a close up of just the red thing:

Ooh, cool!  I'm going to pm you a weird story I'm not ready to share with the public yet.   Let me know what you think, oh interpretive one!
  • lfbno7 said on Jan 18, 2008....
That is a really cool red thing. I believe your house has spirits in it. Either they are the spirits of people who know the residents (namely you) or they are spirits of people who lived in that house before you. Say hi for me. I think that all houses have spirits in them from time to time. If you can think of someone you know who died, maybe that's the person in your house, just popping in to stay in touch. A spirit saw you take that camera out and decided okay, let's give our buddy a show. Maybe there were two of them in your house at the time and they decided to both do red. Makes me think that they were thinking okay, he wants proof, we'll give him proof, then will he believe or will he just pass it off as nothing?
  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
pickers--I look forward to reading it! Nothing is too weird for me....

lfbno--I do know of a few spirits who might be hanging around me. Namely my grandparents. I've felt their presence before lots of times. So it could be them. Or it could be tied to the house and not me. I'm not sure! But the picture is pretty cool because it does feel like I captured some sort of proof....
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jan 18, 2008....
cool.  I think it's an energy of some sort.  The fact that the cats are freaked by it only makes it more plausible in my mind.

  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
uniquely--It does look like an energy streak or something doesn't it? It's very cool! And the cats were going nutso before I took this picture. They seem to be convinced there's something in that spot too.
  • polarheart said on Jan 18, 2008....
Oooo, those look like the aliens I saw on The Floating Ribbon Planet :-)
  • quietone said on Jan 18, 2008....
it is really freaky stuff for sure.  I have not a clue.  why don't you send this to that tv show ghost hunters and see what they might have to say!  I would say "it" belongs more to the house... but what do I know!! It is cool that you did catch something on the camera though!
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 18, 2008....

Dude, that's pretty cool. I have no idea what it is either. Specks of dust show up white and totally round and sometimes glow.

That's what people usually capture and call them 'orbs' when it's really just some dust.

    THIS, however is weird.

It's not a magical dust orb. It looks like a string of energy which means something might have been trying to manifest when you snapped the picture.

    Very awesome.

  • pickersplock said on Jan 18, 2008....
    It looks angry to me.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Jan 18, 2008....
E_T:  I'm a total believer in this haunting/spirit/energy business. I just want to make that clear before I say what I think it could be.

Do you think it could be the red light from your camera, assuming yours has one, and you might not have held the camera steady?

I feel like I've worked for those guys on ghost hunters.  They make me think what else it could be first...like you guys did with the strap.

    :-)

polar--I'm not familiar with the floating ribbon planet!

quietone--We're a huge fan of Ghosthunters and that's where we got the idea to snap the pictures! I might be able to send it in to their website and have them tell me what they think it is...

Mr. Box--It is awesome, isn't it? If something was trying to manifest, I wish I would have taken more pictures! I might have caught something else. And you're right, it's not a dust orb at all.

pickers--I hope it's not angry! But the red color is interesting....

daily--I'm open to debunking! My camera however doesn't have red light on it. It has a little green light by the viewfinder where you put your eye, but nothing on the front of it that could have gotten into the picture. That was a good suggestion though!
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 18, 2008....
dude...weird! i have absolutely no idea what to make of it.

LOL!  I believe your place is haunted! :-)

Hotaka might have some other ideas.  He's pretty handy with a camera.

  • polarheart said on Jan 18, 2008....
SC is eating my comments again!  I think Daily has a good argument Twinny.  Those red bits do seem smudged somehow.  Perhaps the red light of the camera reflected off the glass of the pictures hanging there(?)
  • JadeLondon said on Jan 18, 2008....
Weird. From a logical standpoint, I would think if was some sort of reflection of light from the camera. But I am not so narrow-minded as to dismiss the supernatural, either. And the cats' reaction to the phenomenon, as it were, seems to point to more eerie means.
  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
    silver--It is weird huh?

uniquely--Passion huh? That's a much better thought than it's angry.

daily--We'll see if Hotaka weighs in here eventually. If we didn't have other stuff happening in the house, I might dismiss this picture entirely. But we have all kinds of strange things happening...I think it's haunted too!

polar--We don't have a red light on the camera....and in that spot, we have no pictures either. It's just a blank wall.

Jade--I was thinking logical too. I assumed it had to be a reflection, but there isn't anything to reflect off of in that spot. I just don't know....
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jan 18, 2008....
Well, passion can be tricky.  We usually think of passion being a positive thing, but negative passion or angry passion can be less appealing.  The other thought I had was that red is an energizing color, the color of blood .....

I have no idea where I'm going with this.
  • polarheart said on Jan 18, 2008....
Twinny, sorry I hadn't seen you reply to Daily when I rewrote my comment.  That really is very strange.  May I ask what color the wall is there?  How about posting a pic for us with the lights on so we can see what it looks like "normally"?
  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
uniquely--Assuming that whatever this was is tied to the house, I feel like something tragic happened there once. And all of the major activity we have is centered in that hallway and in the bathroom that is at the end of the hallway. We hear footsteps walking down there and then they disappear into the bathroom. So it could be a negative thing if something bad happened in the bathroom. I'm thinking drowning or suicide.

polar--That's a good idea. When i get home today, I'll snap a picture of the hallway with the lights on so you guys can see what it looks like. Then I'll post it up here for comparison.
  • destinydiva said on Jan 18, 2008....

hey evil, I was telling my daughter about your hauntings today (she was in need of ghost stories for a sleep over tonight) :-)
and I was gonna ask you..remember the bathtub tree, was that the same tree you lost in the storm??  cus thats a pretty weird connection too dont ya think??

    :-) xx

  • uniquely-ironic said on Jan 18, 2008....

Your feelings might be on the money.  You are a sensitive, so you may be sensing the energy left by whatever happened.  The cats may be sensing that as well, though I'd lean toward a tragedy over violence since cats rarely stick around during violent events.  Is there a way you can track down the homes last few occupants?  It might prove interesting.

  • Battycat said on Jan 18, 2008....
    No idea, weird.
  • Zaraida said on Jan 18, 2008....

Ooh, those pictures are pretty weird.  I've had some ghostly sightings myself in a big house I used to live in.  One night I was watching TV and I saw something like a white cloud move in front of the TV screen, and then it happened again a week or two later.  And in that same house my boyfriend smelled the scent of roses in the dining room one night and asked me if I had sprayed on perfume.  I told him he knows I don't like perfume so to this day we don't know what caused that scent of roses.

  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
Okay guys, before I respond to more comments, I got home and took the exact same picture as above, but this time with the lights on. I stood in approximately the same spot too. So what do you think now?

dude, three letters keep rolling through my head: WTF?!

sorry, that's all i've got, man!

  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
destiny--The bathtub tree was a different tree, actually. Luckily that one didn't fall down because it would have crushed our house! I was worried about it, but it stayed up. That would have been some sort of freaky sign if it had been the same tree though!

uniquely--I'd love to track down the previous occupants of the house. It's a pretty old place, so who knows how many people have lived there? I'm not sure how to find that out since it's been a rental duplex forever and even if I found land records, it would only say who the homeowner was and not the tenants. Wouldn't it?

    batty--It is weird!

zaraida-- We've smelled perfume before in our house too, that didn't come from my fiancee. It was really sweet and smelled nice, but we had no idea where it was coming from. It was in our bedroom one night.

silver--That's about all I've got too! I have no idea....
  • Battycat said on Jan 18, 2008....
    Still no idea :-)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jan 18, 2008....
Yeah, you're probably right.  I wonder if googling the address would be of any use.  You know, find old tenants that way.  Is there a way to check with the local police for any activity at that address?  When I worked for the Sheriff's dept we could look things up by address with our computers.
  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
    batty--I've stumped you!

uniquely--I will have to try Googling the address. I have a friend who's a police officer, so maybe he can tell me if anything happened here at the house? I might have to call him!
  • Mr_Box said on Jan 18, 2008....

I'm still stumped. With the regular picture you posted, you can see that there isn't anything in that corner at all. Except a lightswitch.

But it's not low enough down to match with the red thingamabobbie in the other picture.

Very interesting indeed. Whatever it is, it's cool.

  • ydmort said on Jan 18, 2008....
No, I don't think you're crazy.  My house is also haunted.  My dogs will bark and whine to the thin air and my smallest will jump on the sofa run in circles and seem to be playing with someone or something.  She is an older dog so for her to be active is against her nature.

Also, I was taking some self portraits for a dating sight.  When I uploaded the picture, I was amazed at what I saw.  It's clearly a portrait of a being behind me with flames coming up from the feet of the individual and also looks like there is a fetus in it's abdomen.

    So crazy???  I THINK NOT
  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
Mr. Box--I'm still stumped too! There is just nothing there that could make that red light.

ydmort--That picture you described sounds kind of freaky! The person had flames coming up their feet and a fetus inside it? That's really creepy. But my cats do the same type of things your dogs do. I'm glad you don't think I'm crazy!
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 18, 2008....

As a huge devotee of the paranormal, I believe that you got something there.  Have you ever found out about the houses history?  Past owners/tenants.  Has anything bad every happened that you can find out.  You should really think about contacting UCLA (I think you live near there?) They should have paranormal research department (most of the larger Universities do) and they probably would come over and document what you got free of charge.

But if it's not a scary entity, then that's pretty cool!

  • CreativeWoman said on Jan 18, 2008....
I'm a believer in this kind of stuff too.  My first thought when I studied your picture was that you had captured the folds of a shadowy red flowing dress.   Maybe "she" was trying to reveal herself.

Thanks for sharing this.  It's really super cool.

I've been scratching my head over this since I first saw the post, and hours later, I still have no idea what it is or could be. Freaky and a half!

The closest I get is a ribbon wrapped around something - but around what, and why wouldn't it show up too?  That's just wild.

    ~Infernal
  • botoni said on Jan 18, 2008....
I m intrigued. I think if you go to your local library you should be able to trace the previous residents of your house. Could be you ll uncover a mystery.
  • evil_twin said on Jan 18, 2008....
futuregoddess--I have no looked into the history of the house because I wasn't really sure how to do that. I am near UCLA though. Maybe I'll see if they do have some sort of paranormal research team? That would be cool! And so far, the stuff that's happened in the house has been pretty harmless. It doesn't seem like a scary thing, which is good!

CW--That's an interesting thought that it looks like part of a dress. It is cool!

infernal--It does look kind of like a ribbon, but I don't even think we have any ribbons in our house. If it's a ghost ribbon, maybe it's on a dress like CW thought? It is pretty unexplainable isn't it?

botoni--I'll have to check out the library. I haven't been to a library for years! But it would be really cool to find out who used to live here.
  • nursecutie said on Jan 18, 2008....

That picture is just so cool!! I have no idea what it is but I was really really excited when you told me we captured something! I didn't think it would really work but I felt like a real ghosthunter playing around with the camera!

I think we need to set up a tape recorder now and see if we can get any ghost voices on tape.......how exciting would that be??? It's kind of scary to know that something like this might be in our house, but it's so interesting that I don't care! LOL Ghost stories are fun :)

Without knowing the background info I would say a photo had been taken in a dark space without the flash but something slightly out-of-focus had moved in front of the camera during the exposure and had caught light reflected from somewhere which was bright enough to be recorded by the camera. Knowing the background story and seeing the wall photo above I have only one question: where were the cats during the hallway photo session?

according to a few spearate sources, people who've stayed but don't know each other at all, a woman walks out of one of the bedrooms in the oldest part of the house, and through the corridor and then through a wall. one person even said she felt a "presence" trying to strangle her in here sleep, and that things like that happen to her often..i dont know how believeable that is though.
i've never seen her myself, but sometimes there is strange noises. and once, when we were getting a floor relaid, there was a bone found under the floorboards..
    creepy!
so i totally think you could have seen something.
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 19, 2008....

ET - you can start your search for house history online - type in the address and see if anything comes up.  Then call up the local newspaper and see if you can get a cool person to get on the newspaper's database and do a search.  Finally, you can alway go to your town/county's building department and start there.

As for UCLA - yeah, I think it would be cool if you could find out if they would come by.

cutie--I do want to do the tape recorder thing some time! It'll be fun. Even if we don't get anything, it'll still be interesting to try!

openclose--I've never actually seen anything red like that inside the house either. It was weird that it showed up on the camera!

actorguy--A flamenco dancer! Who knows? The noises we heard sounded like someone hitting the wall, and then papers rustling. It was weird.

lfbno--You think the spirits are reading my post? Maybe they'll comment!

hotaka--Good question about the cats. They cats were in the living room area. So if something moved in front of the camera, it wasn't a cat! But that's interesting that movement could cause that. Because there was nothing in that hall that was visible to us.

    crybaby--It is!

bluegum--That is an interesting way to frighten off ghosts! I don't have a gun though. I'm not scared of this anyway, I just think it's interesting!

    redfox--It was a cool experience.

oneway--I've never actually seen any apparitions in the house...yet! But I do hear footsteps a lot and the bathroom door often opens and closes by itself.

I've seen some weird things and one of them was a "string of lights" floating around the room.  If it is energy of some sort--then this fits right in.  What kind of energy, I won't venture to guess.  But I know I saw it. And whatever it is, explainable or not, it's really something that you were able to capture it on film!  Keep at it if you dare....
  • evil_twin said on Jan 19, 2008....
wombat--You've seen lights floating around the room? That's cool! I think that this was some sort of manifestation of energy from something. Either a spirit or maybe even our own energy? I don't know. But I am going to keep investigating because it's fun!
  • evil_twin said on Jan 19, 2008....
Just as a side note for anyone who is really interested in this stuff, I have books about auras and energy colors. And red is the strongest energy color with the most power. According to this book, red represents anger, nervousness, unforgiveness, and anxiety. So if it really is a spirit, these descriptions might explain why it's still hanging around....
  • wombat said on Jan 19, 2008....
evil twin:  I thought that was exactly what it was--a spirit.  The odd thing was that it was zipping around like tinkerbell, ( a thin string of tiny white lights about 6 or 7 inches long and curving) then went straight to my hubby's face and disappeared.  He was asleep beside me, and he immediately lifted up a hand and rubbed his face and nose really hard, like he had been tickled by a feather.  It didn't wake him up, but I told him about it later.  Of course, he just looked at me like I was a kook.

The red looks like two objects that were either red or reflecting (radiating?) red light and they moved during the exposure (or the camera moved). That's all I can say. The rest is a mystery. You had better ask the skull in the bathtub. I suspect the dead guy under the tree knows the truth. Hope he didn't interupt your wedding night!

queen--Don't be scared! At least you're not alone at our haunted house :-P

daily--I will definitely look into this stuff. And if I need any help, I'll let you know! Thanks :-D

skald--Maybe there's something spooky in walls that are finished like that? That's kind of weird!

hotaka--The objects that moved in front of the camera were totally invisible to me at the time. So it's really kind of spooky and fascinating! And the dead guy under the tree didn't bother us at our wedding because we got married in someone else's yard!

Runningbear, that looks exactly like what I saw moving across my TV screen a couple of times.  I guess Casper didn't like my house and moved to your house!  I want him back!  (Ha!)
