Google and Yahoo are the two I use most often.  I'm wondering where you go when you search for information.

As you might guess, I've been getting my feet wet in finding out about how many search engines there are out there as I'm beginning to promote my new blog.  I submitted to another ten that I didn't know existed this morning.

And of course, you guessed it.  I thought I would blog about it. :-)

Do you go to a specific search engine to find specific information?

Do you have a favorite search engine?

Are you loyal to just one search engine?

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

not really, but I do find that ask.com has ecclectic stuff I don't find on google

Do you have a favorite search engine?
I usually use google for everything.  Other search engines are only if google doesn't have it.  I also have the google menu bar added to my internet explorer.

Are you loyal to just one search engine?
    I guess I am.

I use Google more than I do anything.

But I'm also fond of dogpile because it's a metasearch engine that allows you to search utilize Google, Ask.com, yahoo, MSN Live search simultaneously.

I have google bookmarked and use it often. Otherwise I use my msn homepage. I don't find much difference in the two on the things I search, so choice is a shot in the dark.

Google is the only search engine I use.  It's my homepage.  It's not that I'm so fiercely loyal that I would never use another search engine, but Google is by far my favorite for its style and it's features and "extras",  and on top of that I'm used to it - how it works, how to use it, etc.  And once I'm used to something, I don't tend to change from it unless I have a compelling reason to!

As a member of the Search Engine Marketing industry, I must pay attention to most, but personally, I prefer yahoo for news related items, google for commerce, and ask for research. I hate MSN. But I think Yahoo edges out most others.

    ed,
Thank you.  I will add ask.com to my list of search engines to check out.

    UI,
I find myself using Google search more than anything else too.

    queen,
I would guess that a lot of people are like you.  :-)

    Zayda,
I think I had heard about dogpile a long time ago but had forgotten about it.  Thanks for the link.

    beyond,
I've only noticed slight differences in them too.  Sometimes I search my real name and my boring details are about the same on both.

    ntytquill,
I tend to use search engines that are familiar to me as well.

    PT,
Thank you.  I appreciate your professional opinion.

    Eilan,
Me too for the most part.  I've been really surprised about how many search engines there are.

I'm pretty much 100% Google.  I haven't used Yahoo since they colluded with the Chinese government to throw those journalists into jail for writing about democracy.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jan 25, 2008....
    kelly,
I didn't know that about Yahoo.  You are better informed than me.  Thanks.

It happened over 2 years ago now, CW.  A quick read on one specific Chinese journalist jailed can been seen here.
