What's the difference between a bridge and an overpass?

They're both a way to get across either water or land to another point.

Does it really matter that one is over land and one is over water?

I would imagine an overpass (as well as an underpass) is a structure utilized to skirt, pass over or under another means of transport in order to provide a constant flow of traffic on either (train above as car vehicle traffic moves along unimpeded, for example) Bridges make connections otherwise unavailable wherein an overpass/underpass may well share level ground with alleys, streets ect.

    Just a thought.
