DH just got in (yes, I know it's after 2am) and he told me something I couldn't believe. I flew to the window, then grabbed my camera and stood in our doorway in my nightgown taking a few crappy pictures.

It's SNOWING!!!!!!!! :-D

(My apologies to the random neighbors whose vehicles appear in this photo.)

I don't think it'll be here in the morning - it's not much below freezing now - but it's sticking to cars and rooftops. I hope it stays around long enough for me to take little one out in it in the morning! Even if it's not still falling, she would think that was so neat!

Darnit, now I'm all excited when I should be heading to bed. Linebacker baby finally fell asleep on me about twenty minutes ago. I'm such a little kid. But man, it's SNOW!

I'm gonna be grinning in my sleep over this!! We never get snow! :-D

(Can I channel Gene Kelly and skip around all "I'm siiiiiiiiiingin' in the snow, just singin' in the snow..." ya think?)

I see a connection there between loving snow and not living with it. It's pretty to look at if it isn't all slush and dirt, which it eventually becomes, but it is really hard to deal with, shoveling, being trapped in your driveway when the town sends its snow plows down the middle of the street and pushes all the snow right in front of your driveway like a mountain, and you have to shovel a long time in order to get your car out. If you don't do it fast, it freezes and you are then confronted with trying to crack ice, and lots of it. And you can't do it fast if you are fast asleep when it happens, which is par for the course, so get out that pointy steel shovel cause you are going to be using it to crack into ice for a few hours.

lfb: It depends.  I love snow and I live in frickin' Quebec.  There are plenty of things about winter weather that are pains in the you-know-what, but that still leaves plenty to enjoy, too :)

The trick is to rent an apartment where the landlord hires someone to clear the snow out of the parking lot ;)  Or hire someone yourself.  Because yeah, that shovelling snow at 6 a.m. after it's been snowing all night thing, that does suck.

Infernal: I'm so glad you got to see at a little snow, and I hope it was around this morning for little one like you'd hoped!  I saw that storm on the weather last night, and if it makes it up here it looks like a doozy!

    I'm so happy for you!

Living in a tropical country I've never actually seen or touched snow. XD

Thanks for all the comments, y'all, and for mostly sharing in my delight! :-D

lfb: I can see not liking it as much if you had to deal with the negative aspects often, but I think I'd be more like nyt and just love snow anyway. ;-) And that's a parking lot.

ed: I started a thoughtful reply, but I know you'd rather hear what I really feel, so here goes:

I'm guessing you don't usually see snow where you live that much? If I saw it snowing outside my house, I'd probably be just as excited. Or scared, because that might mean the apocalypse was coming or something since it's never snowed in Los Angeles before. But I'd take pictures before the world ended for sure! :-P

Kyle: It snows here about once every two years, and it's usually just a quick flurry or almost enough to make a footprint in, so yeah, it's a big event!

I think a snow-covered LA would be just plain freaky too. :-D

  • beyondtheveil said on Jan 17, 2008....
infernal- I share your enthusiasm because it evidently snows here about as much as you describe where you live. For a lot of snow, I'd rather drive to it (about two hours) and then leave when I've had my fill.
  • Twylarants said on Jan 17, 2008....
You're so lucky Infernal!  I don't miss driving in it, walking in it, shoveling it, scraping it, or tracking it in my house, and I sure don't miss wondering if it was going to make my roof collapse, but I miss seeing it!

I love the snow! We get it ever so often here in Texas....usually lots of ice though. I love weather! And If it were snowing I'd be like a little kid too. My "Heart Mom" is like that....she will call and giggle and say Guess what!!!!  Its snowing and she talks like a
a little kid. .. SO Get excited all you want.

Much to my delight there has been precious little snow in these parts so far this winter.  As one might suspect, by now we are generally buried in several feet of snow by now.  I am rather enjoying the unseasonal lack there-of.

As for those of you who seldom or never see the stuff, enjoy it while it lasts.  Times, they are a changing.  Perhaps Kyle and Nurse Cutie will be buried in snow soon while I enjoy sub-tropical weather in january.  Who knows!  Changing climate and all!

As it is, I can't find enough snow at the moment to create a decent snowball to lob at ya!
