For those of you who don't know me, I'm a web developer. I am currently in the process of building a community & blogging engine. That is a site, which allows anyone to sign up, and start their own community site within minutes. They will have flexibility to give it it's own look and feel, plug it into adsense to start earning money immediately, and integrate directly into feedburner and technorati so that user topics, blogs, forums and messageboards get indexed quickly and traffic comes in without the user needing to do anything at all!

Users who join your sites will also be able to plug in their adsense ID's and earn cash from their own pages. They will be able to blog, have personal profile pages, with online photo albums and so on.

Big project...hell yeah.

Will it be worth it...definately.

Let me know what kinds of features you think could be added. This site is going to be run by bloggers and blog-masters, so who better to ask than the people who may ultimately be using it?

Let me know your thoughts...

More to come!

Cool, how about integration with the amazon affiliation system, when pages are talking about books, music, electronics and so on?

how and where you web, I hope you can make pretty!

truthblogs - allready onto it mate. Initially, UK & US users will be able to enter their amadon affiliates ID, so they can earn too, with full intelligent integration. Shall roll out to more countries if initial response is good. guidezone - all shall be revealed shortly, as soon as we have a beta version fully up and running. As it is still in development though, that is why I'm asking for ideas now, and good ones can still be implemented before we go live. The interface will be fairly configurable through a wizard, so you can give your own community site it's own identity and look & feel.

I want to develop a site for budding writers, I need the same option ie; login (password/username) and the abililty to post text and have people comment on it. similar to a blog but more for people porting long works. I also want to charge members $1 per month for admin costs... seeing as you are a developer mrhowto, how would I do this??? cheers
  • StupidGenius said on Aug 04, 2006....
your idea is a good one tho
  • mrhowto said on Aug 04, 2006....
stupidgenius - take a look at www.paypal.com you can use their tools to build subscription systems within your own websites. A basic knowledge of HTML and some kind of scripting language(php, asp, coldfusion etc) is needed to creat a good functional site though. However, some systems such as Wordpress.com supply all the code you need to create your own proper blogging site, which can be tweaked(some knowledge of php is required) to do whatever you want it to do.

Keep us informed. I am almost ready to bail out of Weinerville. (Just kidding. I love it here.) However, I am surprised SoulCast admin has not pulled the plug on your account. Your site seems like it will be a competitor for SoulCast. Yet you are advertising on SoulCast. Watch your back.

I am wit hu, mrhowto... I am eagerly awaiting the latest developments in this regard.. I have the following ideas/queries... 1.ALready there are lots of communities ? like 360, xanga, 21publish.com, is this for us to establish our own network to share with our kith and kin/ colleagues os is it free for all like here? I am new to this, so please bear with me, if I sould ignoramus like ... 2.Will u incorporate alongwith adsense , other related affiliates like barnesandnoble.com and others,etc.... 3.I think there should be both option available...with pictures, and without pictures too, so that whoever wants can choose what they like.I don't have webcam or any photo capture device, so I can't upload picture, how about putting avatars and emoticons ? 4.That's all I have for now...will sharre whatever ideas I get, asap.. Here's to your BIG project... Hip Hip Hurraaaayyy !!!

Great idea. I had a similar idea. I wanted to help students and people earn money in their spare time. Lots of people have web space provided by their ISP. I thought a site telling them hot to use that space and linking all the sites together with a web ring would form a community. I'm trying to learn how forums work now. The website will need a forum for members to discuss ideas. It will also need lots of technical information to help people set up their own web sites. I'll keep working on the idea. I look forward to seeing if you get your project off the ground - it sounds great. Try to include a spell checker! lol . I read something about writing you blog in MS WORD and then uploading it. Not a bad idea - it would then get spell checked and you would get those minor mistakes in grammer pointed out.
