the film the bucket list, starring morgan freeman and jack nicholson, has a simple premise: two friends decide to do all the stuff that they wanna do before they...kick the bucket.

i've been meaning to see this movie for some time, but haven't yet had the chance myself. however, it did (of course) give me an idea for a poll. :D

what's on your bucket list?

i know, we've done stuff like this in the past but there's different people and i figure some answers have changed: i know some of mine have, anyway.

so? :>

Good one, Ed, I'll give it some thought and come back in a while ;-)

Actually ed, someone else has posted a 101 things in 1001 days challenge. It's pretty much the same thing, except there's a time limit.

But I'm going to post my list as soon as I can think of 101 things. And that's so much harder than it sounds! I'll see if I can find that link.
  • tbs230 said on Jan 16, 2008....
BAM!!! Here it is, Are you up for the challenge?
  • beyondtheveil said on Jan 16, 2008....
Ed- First of all, my wife and I very much like the two actors and want to see this movie. But back to the post-

I want to go to Europe, mainly Italy and France.
I want to spend a week or two in New York City.
I'd like to walk in one of those semi-active volcanos and watch the molten lava.
I'd like to vote for a presidential candidate I truly admired and wanted in office.

    tbs: ah, i don't read mariah--thank you!

I believe the only thing I truly want to be able to do with all my heart is....

own some land, build my home there and be able to sit on my porch, look out and as far as I can see know it is my home filled with love and laughter and hard work.

it sounds simple and maybe a little sappy....but if I accomplish that in my life, I can't imagine anything more I'd need than what I'd already have.
  • GracefullyGrowing said on Jan 16, 2008....
I just want to complete my original purpose in life to the best of my ability.  I know what that purpose has been in the past, and I did it well, causing a modicum of harm.  As for the future, I'm convinced the purpose is much different because I'm in the process of learning new things - growing.  That usually means a total change in direction than what I anticipated the path would be.  How very exciting!

    see the glaciers in Alaska

restore an old victorian to it's original splendor
    learn a few more instruments
see my daughter graduate from med school
    learn tai chi

    Cool!

    I'd like to:

-publish at least three novels and two poetry collections
-buy a house in my beloved mountains (given my long ago ambition to become an architect, I'm certainly not opposed to designing and building my own either)
    -adopt a child
-see my children grown up and happy with their lives
    -become a grandma and great-grandma
-visit Ireland and Scotland to explore the homelands of my ancestors, and Switzerland just because it'd be neat :-D
-visit NYC (that's not a must-do, but I'd like to see Times Square)

I'm sure there's more than that. I guess I'd better live a long, long time to get it all done. :-D

Find a woman to love and be loved by.
Father many children, and be the best father for them that i can be.

Wow..if you had asked me this 40 years ago...but then you couldn't have, huh? You would have been...you wouldn't have been!

At this stage of my life my daydreams are not quite as grand as they were at that stage of my life.  At 20 I planned to study law.  That was all I wanted to do.  Then I married and had children.
At this stage?  Have grandchildren, my sons' children.  I have 2 step-grandchildren, but we're not allowed to see them...my stepson's wife doesn't care for us.  Oh well.
Live in Europe for 1 year, and travel by train to every country we've always wanted to see.
Move back to Jersey where our families live.
    Paint a masterpiece.
    Learn to play piano.
Have a fully stocked wood working shop.

I'll have to come back later as this list has changed with me over the years and I got to make up my mind which thing on the list is still attractive to me.  I definitely cannot and will not do....for lack of stamina and physical fitness....the things I'd liked to have done in the past.  Like get a challenging job like a police man or fireman or something like that.  Traveling is for sure a big attraction for me but can't afford the places I'd like to go.  Parachuting is another big attraction for me but I'd have second thoughts about doing that now although I'm still interested.
There's a bunch more but I'd have to sit down and think about it.

I'd like to add get outdoors more like camping and hiking, ah yes in Switzerland I told myself I'd like to do those things there one day. Hello ed, = )

Thanks for the link! I will definitely watch this movie. I admire both actors.  And before I crash (my computer is suffering as I am too = / ) and the baby wakes up(!), let me send this comment as quick as I can.

It used to be a long list (and I have checked most of it).  Last night, I thoughtfully went over it in my head again.  I am going through another bout of depression, and everything becomes clearer when you are slllllllllllllllllllowly coming out of one *sigh*.

I feel blessed to have my dream fulfilled of having daughters.  And before I hit the bucket :

I wish to see them happy while growing up; I want to see them as happy adults; I want to see them as happy mothers, and yes perhaps if I am lucky, I wish to see them as happy grandmothers too.

Deep inside me that is my only wish.  A wish I cherished since I was a kid.

    Warmest regards,

    paper ~

    P.S.

    LacyChenault - I second the motion ;  )

lacy: welcome to my blog! stick around--there are plenty of filipino/filipina soulcasters. why the philippines, if you don't mind my asking?

vm: wow, those all sound great! i have 2 friends who just did the times square/new year's even thing. i'll see if i can't coax one into describing it. :>

infernal: heh...that could be a lot of fun!

    CW: excellent answer. :>

dee: you know, i don't think i could get into bungie jumping, but hanggliding...wow...

vic: hey, long time no see. you know i share that one.

twyla: heh...i've made no bones about being somewhere in my 30s so no, i suppose not. that's terrible about your stepdaughter-in-law, though--? learning to play piano is perhaps oddly not that difficult, IMHO. and i know what you mean about painting--what do you paint in, watercolors, oil, something else?

WH: why not write a book?

lala: finding a purpose is pretty darned important and i hope you discover yours soon.

rollingc: i hear you re: skydiving, man--i can sympathize. :>

tbs: o yeah, there's tons and tons of folks, and i love discovering 'em here, you know? :>

np: hi there! visiting india, huh? i think that sounds great! why guitar and violin?

queen: and you can do all of those things, little sister. i have faith in you. [hug]

fallyn: long time no see! you could just list one or two things, you know. :>

lioness: out of country vacation? where would you like to go? and what kind of humanitarian organization?

paper: long time no see! that's a good thing to have on your list, and i'm sure the other parents who responded are nodding in agreement. :>

mamie: those are excellent things to have on your list. :>

I do like Jamie, but the chef whose food I like to eat is perhaps lesser known  and he is Heston Blumenthal. He has this wonderful scientific approach to cooking and he is really down to earth and modest.

If you have some time read what is written about him.  I have a feeling that you'd like him.  His restaurant is called The Fat Duck :-)

np: o, you should definitely try more--i completely agree about the breads, when they're fresh out of the oven they're wonderful! i'm a big fan of masala and vindaloo (a very spicy preparation). there's a place near here that does a lovely buffet lunch, and it lets you sample a bit of a lot of dishes, so you can learn what you do/don't like about the cuisine. it's among my favorite things... :>
