I have been teaching myself how to do create a domain, domain mapping, domain forwarding and advanced DNS settings to get my new blog running ship shape.  This has been a big learning curve because I know zilch about it to begin with.

Today I called Yahoo Technical Support for small businesses because I was certain I had done something wrong.  I kept typing my web address into Yahoo's search engine and was getting nothing.  Well, not nothing, a "suggestion" to go to my site and that my domain may not exist.

That left me scratching my head.  I had followed the directions and had gone over my work twice.  I did find one little forward slash that needed to be inserted.  I fixed that.  I printed off all my directions for reference.  I went to the "help" sections and did that for both the blog host and domain host before I tried typing in any fancy computer lingo.  I was flying by the seat of my pants.

So, I talked to this very nice man at Yahoo.  He explained to me that I wasn't seeing my site because I was typing the address into Yahoo's "search"  instead of it's "browser".  He explained how it could take weeks for it to show up in search.  He was kind enough to walk me through manually submitting my domain into Yahoo's search engine to make that process a little faster.  He typed my web address into his Yahoo browser and it came right up.

I was very flattered because he commented a couple of times on what a very well designed and laid out site it was. That made me feel really good.  He sounded genuine. It brought a big smile to my face.

Now, I think I can relax just a bit about all this domain mapping and forwarding.  He tells me it looks right.

I'll focus now on building my content, driving visitors there, and investigating appropriate affiliate links.

This is going to be a full time job to build it into my vision, but I absolutely love it.  I think I'm on my way.  :-)

    ed,
Me too!  I must admit that I was a little intimidated about making the call.  I put it off a day longer than I should have.  I was afraid my inexperience would shine through.  He understood my question and I understood his answer.  You can't really get a better tech support experience than that.  :-)

Glad to read this, because I had tried a couple of times again, myself, and I still couldn't get to your site through Yahoo.  Maybe that will be taken care of soon!  Wishing you continued good luck!

I like Yahoo!'s customer support - I had a site up for a while with them. I'm glad you had a good experience. :)

    wombat,
I told him that a friend was having trouble getting to my site (meaning you) and he tested it with his browser.  He said it was working.  Please let me know if you still have trouble.

    Infernal,
I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience too.  :-)  That's always encouraging.

I will check it again, I promise.  Tonight I am having slowski problems, getting around on SC!  I finally got back on SC, and am wondering what is up with my computer...but I will keep up on this. I was guessing that it was a simple thing of "getting it going" like you said.

    wombat,
Thanks for all your help.  I wouldn't have known there was a problem in the first place, if you hadn't told me.  :-)

    queen,
Thanks.  I'm sure going to try and make it big.  :-D
