Home Depot, which would account for a large percentage of
post-construction sales. Numbers for new homes (single and
multifamily) would roughly be equivalent to the number of interior and
exterior doors per dwelling times the number of new homes per
category.

In 2004 Huttig Building Products sold 4 million units of doors of
which an estimated 1.7 million were pre-hung. This works out at 42.5 %
that are pre-hung.

Ducker Research collects data on the sale of residential doors. The
Freedonia Group also produces reports on this market. The Ducker
Research figures are much higher than Freedonia’s which appears to be
due to Ducker including both passage and closet/bifold volume.

By channel
Sales of entry and interior doors direct from the manufacturer to the
millwork wholesaler account for close to 50 percent of the total
product volume, with big-box stores and lumber-yards coming in rather
distant second and third places, respectively. The big box accounts
for about 25 percent of entry door volume and only 13 percent of
interior door volume. Manufacturer direct distribution of interior
doors to the big box, lumberyard and shortline distributor channels is
nearly equal.
About 45 percent of patio and entry door products end up in the new
construction segment, new construction accounts for nearly 70 percent
of interior door product utilization.
Big boxes are purchasing the majority of the doors they sell pre-hung.
