I miss the island breeze; the sun dancing on your skin
fruits picked from trees in your backyard
the night sky painted with stars too numerous to count
in the town of cheers where everyone knows your name
we played marbles, cricket, and soccer with juice boxes as balls
wood fire to cook our meals, women singing with baskets on their heads
On there way to the market to sell what they have labored to produce
stories told by the fire side while the young ones play hide and seek in the dark of night
These were the days of innocents before the world was revealed to us
we would lay on branches and daydream about the future filled with possibilities
bath in the rain to feel the tears of mother nature
barefoot, care free and unrestricted
time worked with us instead of against us
Reggae music filled our hearts and become apart of us like breathing
The ice-cream cart stop by our gate every Sunday
The treat after Sunday dinner was served
At times I sit back and reminisce of a simpler life
what I would give to have fresh coconut water grace my lips
To swim in the Rio Grande to pick fresh oranges from the tree
To ride on the train and get a glimpse of the magnificent country side
Those days are gone! The bliss of ignorance is over
The world has changed, I have awoken from a beautiful dream
