short version: according to at least one ESPN writer, the giants will pull off an upset of dallas. and yes, he's being serious. long version here.

commentary: while i'd like to believe it, in my heart i just can't. and for all the talk about TO, the real challenge for the giants LBs and secondary is dallas TE jason witten: he's the one who keeps drives alive. the giants haven't played particulary well against the league's top-flight receivers. a hobbled TO is easier to neutralize, but i think witten needs to receive the focus of the giants d if they're gonna play the kind of game they want.

p.s.: i'm on a break before diving back into data conversion. but i just had to share this. :>

    Hi Ed

I have no cooking clue what this post is about, but I just wanted to drop in and say "Hi" and "I miss seeing you around as much".

Ed ~ J and I were thrilled when the Giants won their first playoff game since '94!  When I saw that they would next be playing against the Cowboys - who I despise because of their show-boat wanna be hero, TO, my heart sank.  But I am forever an optimist and fully believe that the Giants will kick the Cowboys asses all over the field until they can no longer walk right!  *sigh* I hope I hope I hope I hope.  Good luck on the conversion!

polar: hey there! it's about the american-rules football playoffs. actually, my team (the giants) played a game in london a 6-8 weeks ago but they did a lousy job promoting it i understand so if this is completely alien to you that's not terribly surprising. :> good to see you too--i really miss being on here like i used to be! :>

notsosingle: heh...i dislike dallas too, but it's been mollified ever since parcells went there. let's hope, huh? :>

Alrighty then...I just might have to watch this one in its entirety. We'll be on opposite sides - though I think DH will be pulling for the Giants. That'll be interesting when Dallas stomps them. :-D

I wouldn't mind seeing the Giants go all the way to the 'Bowl, but not at the expense of my Cowboys. If they do knock Dallas out, I'll pull for them. I'm not nearly as fierce about football as I am about ACC basketball.

i have to say, you'd probably be nicer about it if our situations/team loyalties were reversed... :>

Nah. :-D It's too much fun to pick, even when you have no real right to do so. (I do it to UNC fans even when Duke has a horrible basketball season.)

    ah. in that case then...

Now that's just plain wrong. :-D

You know, I'd suggest a friendly wager, but it's hardly fair.

heh..say, what's the spread on the game?

Aw, I can't decide. I'll take the Packers over the Seahawks, though. Indy over San Diego, and I'm still steadfast in my belief that the Jags will pull the upset over the Pats. But I still can't seem to predict the Dallas/NYG game.

The Giants are hungry for a victory, but Dallas is a very formidable team. Both teams are pretty banged up, too, so it could go either way.

Okay, coin flip. Heads, Dallas. Tails, Giants.
    *Flips coin*
    Tails. Go Giants!

ed: I think I saw somewhere that if you bet on the Giants you're looking at about a +8 pt. spread, but I never keep track of that stuff so I could easily be wrong.

Ed, so is you being here so little going to be a permanent arrangement? (sorry, to interrupt your football post - - - it sounds funny saying "football" coz here in the UK we call soccer "football" - - - in SA we also refer to it as soccer, but I know American football is a completely different sport to the UK football)
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 11, 2008....
not a permanent arrangement, no. in theory that could change, but i don't think so. this project is definitely taking me longer than i anticipated though.

Dallas, +7.5, according to the Metro.
  • silverwhisper said on Jan 11, 2008....
harried: really? i'd have expected more, to be honest.

btw: i have to share this with you. in a forum i frequent, i'm friends w/ a dallas fan over there (his avatar's a dallas helmet right now) and proposed a friendly wager: the loser displays a new title (component of the profile) for 1 week, new title subject to approval by the winner. :>

apparently, on another forum i know of, you can receive "reputation" points for your posts. if you garner enough, you can change someone else's av. can you imagine what this place would look like if that happened?! :D

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Jan 11, 2008....
Why do I have the sneaking suspicion a lot of Dallas fans would be sporting Giants avs right now if that was how SC worked? :-D

    Yeah, right! :-D

I just got a great idea for the perfect av for you. I wonder -- I'm so hitting Photoshop tonight if I get a chance. You won't use it anywhere, but it'll still be funny.
