Hillary swelled up with some invisible tears at her news conference the other day, reminding some pundits of Ed Muskie when he shed tears at the thought of his wife's abuse.

Muskie lost the primary that year and analysts blamed the crying. Hillary, on the other hand, got a boost from it.

Apprarently lots of people think that she faked the scene. Calculated political move. If so, I'd like to know what she was basing her calculations on. Have tears ever before HELPED anyone win?

Not that I know of. And is she really that good an actress. Have you seen the videos she and Bill did where they were trying to act? That's a pretty weak theory.

I'm no Hillary Clinton fan, but I was taken aback at her honest show of emotional strain. I was glad to see a chink in the armor.

Now I'm thinking about her candidacy seriously.

up until now, Hillary has seemed a little too stiff and calculating to me...maybe she's over a hump now where she can start acting more real and less guarded - if only she were funnier. But she's not very funny. Meanwhile, Chelsea - who as a kid reminded me of Howdy Doody - has become HOT!!!!!! WOW!!!

I think your post an excellent one.  There is one correction I might make.  It was at a dinner table. She and some women were sitting around a round table. I believe it was in a hotel.  Anyhow, in this small meeting around the table, one woman said;" how do you do all of this.  Don't you get tired?"

On the subject of Ed Muskie, I never knew if he lost because he cried, or if someone actually might have thought he could be guilty of wife abuse, himself.  You just never know what people are thinking?  And when they don't know, all they have to do is turn on the TV, and listen to the media spin it anyway they like it.

I have offten thought, that maybe the media plays a bigger roll in who we elect, than we might think.   ((Food For Thought!))

A rather interesting perspective here is that many people would object to any woman as president because women are "too emotional". And many equate the showing of emotions with weakness, which is partially why women have been referred to as the weaker sex.

Yes, people are speculating that the move was calculated.

Yet others feel that they are finally seeing Hilary.

I'm surprised, even today, that there wasn't more of a "backlash" against the show of emotion as being a sign of weakness.

Me too Zayda. I haven't heard anyone except John Edwards elude to that weakness aspect. Until now, Hillary has come across as emotionless. Too bad there's a writer's strike, she should go on Saturday Night Live before the primaries are over. That would clinch it for her. Or -- maybe she can get away with hiring some of the striking comedy writers to spice up the press conferences. If she stays more human she'll suck me in...

I suspect that, on some level, she hasn't come across as more human simply because of that fear of being labeled as weak for showing too much emotion.

I've had a lot of debates with neocons over the definition of torture and now I'd like to pose a question to the SC community. Is this torture?...
In a controversial move, the Minnesota State Elections Board has decided that Al Franken defeated Norm Coleman in a race that had Coleman ahead originally and now is being contested by the Coleman camp.
This leads me to my point :...

Bye bye 2008. Will this be our last New Years party?
