Yesterday, I was at my sister’s house. She asked me to come and help her with her Thesis writing. Her thesis is about interpretation of poetry works of a certain writer.
She let me read the acknowledgment part and autobiographical sketch in which she wrote in poetry form. She wrote it in just one night. I controlled myself not to cry because I was touched by her lines. It is I and father whom she referred to as Bim (me) and Tatay Peps (father).
Since elementary until before I got married, we were not in good relationship. We always fight and had different perceptions and understandings of things. I was a homebody while she was and up to now a social/party girl. She is always in fashion while I was dressing up conservatively.
When I got married we became close. She and my other sister were in the hospital when I labored, excited to see my first born. Now, I can criticize her without her getting angry at me and vice versa. We enjoy talking and sharing just anything. I appreciate her as my sister and I am very proud of her. She is intelligent and determined.
Please read and try to comment as to the technicality of the poem. Thank you.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Life has always been and will always be a journey;
The past nine long months was the most terrible,
Sacrificing, and miserable moments for me.
Moments where I would stumble and fall,
Renounce and adjourn my edifying endeavor.
However, that endeavor has been optimistically realized;
A journey, then, headed to a prolific path
Because of God Almighty, and the many who had lend a hand.
Two of whom I am most grateful for
Who fueled and oiled the engine of my vehicle
To get me started and pursue my journey
Mainly were Sir Toto and Ma’am Lerry.
Dr. Chan, an adviser of mine
Who overhauled the parts which were not so fine.
Dr. Llanera and Ma’am Ruth both served as pilots
For me to completely arrive at my projected points.
Mart, Elsie, Jean, and Lynette
My valiant contemporaries in this quest
Who would hoist my sail and lift up my spirit
In times of predicaments and in tempest.
Harold, Leo, Cheche, Neva, Cheney,
Olive, Tawe, Glenn, and the entire riverside faculty
Were the steering wheels which channel the right directions
That would make me achieve my real ambitions.
Bim and Tatay Peps, were the fellow explorers
Who shared genuine experiences upon those travels
Making me feel I was not alone
For in them, I was truly at home.
Despite the obstacles barricading my trail
I kept on moving on, believing I would not fail.
Sec was the sun and Kiara was the star in sight
The lights upon my journey in both day and night.
AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
The new dawn of February
Has brought into the world
The 4th child in the family
It was another God’s great miracle
He gave me life and made it so beautiful.
In a secluded vicinity of Loctugan,
Youth was enjoyed and simple dreams began.
With compassionate parents in guidance,
A child in innocence bloomed in accordance.
CIT and FCC, both imparted me knowledge
In their portals I acquired strength and courage
With educators and comrades so sympathetic
Laughter is treasured; memories are cherished.
First professional embark was in broadcasting;
Playing lovable music and news-casting
The hidden voice from four corners of Star FM;
Overheard in the entire Capiz; Kaila was the name.
In the chill zephyr of December
Bells did ring; aisle filled with flowers
A matrimonial ceremony for two lovers
Staying forever was the genuine promise.
A blissful bond got deeper than the sea,
Stronger than the mountain, sweeter than the honey,
With fragrant buds of May, a humble abode stood proud
Where love’s the core; respect surrounds.
The showery days of June
Brought forth an unpredicted fortune
In teaching where I devoted my passion
Hercor College, the right institution.
A day before the year ended
A few hours before New Year’s Eve
A new life of an angel came to existence
She completed our life; gave it a bountiful sense.
