TheSignPost reads (5):
I'm a forty something, engaged (yeah, lol), ex-confirmed batchelor, soon-to-be-grandpa trying to feel good with life.

I find myself lonely in a crowd sometimes, as I have extensive family, kids and friends but nobody in whom I can confide.  I have a couple of dilemmas that I cannot speak to anyone I know about (nothing sordid or juicy lol) and Damn! that makes me feel sad.

I chose TheSignPost as my username because flatteringly, many people ask my opinion and consider me a confidente (I am most grateful or should I say nosey), while I do not have the outlets or answers to my own problems, so like a sign post, i can point the right way but i'm unable to follow my own directions.  Deep or corny, that's how I feel.

i'm also into my first week as a non-smoker after 21 years as a smoker and wow am I hormonal.  i wrote a blog last night, that I deleted this morning as I could not imagine how I thought it was a good idea to have it introduce me, so here I am now, sounding like a depressed whatever.- anyone got a cigarette? - only joking

Anyways, anyone who feels that they may have a contribution to make will be welcome here for as long as i am.

Thanks for stopping by

hello Sunshine, thanks for the welcome - and i love your name : D
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
Thank you! :-) I also love my name, and do my best to be the one who can bring a little sunshine in to people's lives. How are you doing today?
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
Exhausted after taking the humanforsale test, but also relieved.  lol
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
Haha, it's a long one! I did it one day to kill some time. Kinda neat though. I guess I am worth millions! ;-)
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
It took even longer as I started reading all the triva and facts about the averages etc - very interesting  and anorak-ey, I luv it!   : )
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
Wait until you start reading a lot of posts here and commenting on others. You'll find the time just flys by... It's really a great place though! :-)
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
hey, I only came on here for a quick look around and now it's dark outside!! lol  What the hell, I suppose I can always earn a living some other day.
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
Haha, I've been lurking around here all day. It's just hard to step away. I guess I'm soaking up the last little bit of freedom before I head back to school tomorrow. lol
  • Lucytorial said on Jan 06, 2008....
Well done on giving up, I'm still smoking and wanting to give up but hey! I like it too much.
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
Sunshine - lurking is good : )  Gotta squeeze the last bit of holidays out before it's back to the grind.  Sad but true.

Lucy - I've been giving up for 20 years and failing dismally, so I have not officially quit yet, I'm using the old alcoholic's adage - "I don't know about tomorrow, but I'm not smoking today".

Luckily for me, this time feels different to previous quitting attempts for some reason and these past 7 days have been no trouble at all.  However, I don't want to get too cocky in case I end up chewing my clothes. lol
  • Lucytorial said on Jan 06, 2008....
tee hee hee I'd be chewing more than my clothes... last time I tried I chewed out every single person I knew that liked me, needless to say I ended up being nasty to everyone, drinking too much and then taking it back up at my husbands insistence.... I was evil personified...
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
LOL...It's amazing how madness can be so close to the surface; like the duck gliding effortlessly on the pond surface, while the feet are kicking furiously underneath.
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
That is one habit I'm glad I never started!
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....

For sure.  It's beyond rationale, I've never enjoyed it.  Sounds dumb and it is.  I never smoke when on holiday or abroad, but as soon as I land back, I'm on it. Crazy.

  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
I guess you'll just have to go on holiday more often! Haha
  • Expendable said on Jan 06, 2008....
Maybe smoking is how you deal with something. Like work stress. You go on holiday and don't smoke - but come back and you want to pick up a pack again.

When you feel like smoking, go for a walk. Even if it's just around the block. Or something.
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
Sunshine - LOL..I like it.  You may have something there.  The only thing is I only drink socially (I've only been drunk twice in my life), but when on holiday, I drink, drink - so I'd probably end up as a drunkard.  There's something about sand, sea and no work in the morning that makes it a good idea to have beer for breakfast!!
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
Hi Expendable, absolutely.  As soon as something goes wrong or a client gets on my nerves, I want to light up.  That's the excuse I need.  I'm feeling good this time around though (for some reason) and this may be the one.  a week and I'm not missing it. Very strange.
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
What happened to your only staying here for a few minutes? Haha...you're starting to look like me. Soon SC will be your home.
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
Exactly.  It's like I'm just getting my legs under the table  : )
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
How are you enjoying it so far? Find any interesting reads??
  • fearing said on Jan 06, 2008....
Hold on tight SignPost - this place is addictive.  I hope someone mentioned to you that it's kinda like the twilight zone too because once you post it's impossible to leave for good.  ha ha!  I think you will like the people you find here.  Just jump in and start talking to people.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
  • Expendable said on Jan 06, 2008....
Watch out for the ankle-biters - I mean trolls. They'll post stuff to get you angry.  You're better off ignoring them.
  • Sunshine_Mariah said on Jan 06, 2008....
So I'm thinking that if I hide out here...in your post...because you are a newbie and all, not many people will find me and then I won't have to go back to school tomorrow! Excellent idea eh, I'm glad you agree! ;-)
  • fearing said on Jan 06, 2008....
@Expendable - I thought we got rid of the trolls.  Sigh.  We should check ID.  ;-)
  • TheSignPost said on Jan 06, 2008....
sunshine - It's excellent.  there's all different kinds of blogs, so I have really been skimming around checking out the general vibe. I like your blog : )

I don't know if you have looked around at some other sites, like journalspace and that but SC seems more like me.

fearing - addictive it is!!!  And I have been surprised how personable and responsive everyone is.

Expendable - There are trolls everywhere, i nearly married one once haha.  I've learnt how to sidestep them : )
  • ninjapirate said on Jan 06, 2008....
Hi, welcome to SoulCast.  I know what ya mean about being in a crowd and feeling lonely.  It sucks, but this place does help for that.  I hope you stick around.
  • gingersoul said on Jan 06, 2008....

Sign...as i wrote in your previous blog (and i am glad to repeat it here) your first salute to Sc is great and so is your username....i read the description and i found it brilliant...;-)

You scored two points with very little effort. Just like i like things in life. Great satisfaction with minimum sweat....lol...unless, naturally, we dont include activities usually done horizontally ...there, i dont mind the sweat at all...lol..

I quit smoking cold turkey many years ago...went down from 2 packets of Malboro and Camel to zero, nada, niet, niente. Zit.

You can do it. I dont guarantee about not being moodygrumpybitchy...but hey, life is made of choices, correct?

Hope you will stick around...this place is worthy...:-)

  • D6fer said on Jan 06, 2008....
Good luck with the non-smoker thing....if you can beat that....you should be able to do anything!
  • hotaka said on Jan 06, 2008....
Love the sign post analogy. I can kinda relate. I always find it easy to give advice but never easy to follow my own advice. Congrats on giving up smoking. I know it's tough though I have never been a smoker myself. Pat on the back for you. Forty something grandpa, eh? I have heard of younger. I'll more likely be over 75 before I am a grandpa. Anyway, hang around here and get involved. You'll find it's quite fun and friendly.
  • rupert7 said on Jan 07, 2008....
TheSignPost. I smoked for 20 years and then gave it up cold turkey. That is not a boast. It was easy though. I genuinely WANTED to give it up. I believe that is the key! genuine motivation. I mean I gave it up half heartedly lots of times and started again in days(sometimes hours)  But this time I stopped because I really wanted to, and it was easy! I have not had a smoke, not desired a smoke since 1984!

Welcome, again, to SoulCast, Sign. I think I welcomed you in another post. I'm too tired to remember properly at this moment, though.

When I was in college, both of my parents gave us smoking after having smoked for 20 some years. So, it can be done. They have both been ex-smokers for a good 15 years or more now.
  • husbandhater said on Jan 07, 2008....
I also find myself alone in crowds too. I try not to isolate myself but I still feel isolated. Welcome to SC Signs!
  • davidstar said on Jan 08, 2008....
How are you doing with the non-smoking.  I have quit so many times.  Still smoking.
  • tbs230 said on Jan 08, 2008....
welcome, welcome!! Congrats on the engagement and the smoke-freeness!!

Maybe you can write about why you decided to quit?? I would love to read that...
  • RollingC said on Jan 09, 2008....
It took me many years and quite a few attempts at quitting smoking before I finally succeeded....and the fact that I had the flu and it went to my lungs at the time made  me decide to quit for good.  I had previously quit for certain periods of time, once up to 2 years, and then like a fool I started again even though I could tell it was affecting my health.  Lets face it I liked it a lot, didn't have at the time the wherewithal to quit   and I couldn't be a part-time smoker.
It's been over a year now and the feeling is great as there is no more wheezing sound coming from my lungs and the few times that I did pick up a cigarette during a drinking session I found that the thrill was gone and it was more of a pain than anything else.
Congratulations on quitting smoking.   Having the wish to quit really helps but quitting because you want to make a health improvement (even though you still like to smoke) is to be commended.
