Years ago my wife had all kinds of legal troubles involving my son's common law wife J. J brought my wife to court and tried to make sure my wife would never be able to see her beloved grandson. It was a disgusting mess. Because of it, and because my son didn't speak up for his mother, I didn't see them for years, and didn't visit my grandson.
Meanwhile, my wife often visits their family. There is no more trouble between them. After posting about my son's victory over bipolar disease, I had a change of heart and decided to see them for the first time in years.
Today was the day. We went to their apartment. The first thing that happened was that J gave me a big hug. She spent a lot of the time talking to me, and she kept telling my grandson to take my hand when we walked outside. She took lots of photos of the family that included me.
My grandson is a pretty amazing reader, for 6 going on 7. He read the menu of the pizza shop we went to, which included "sausages" and lots of other tough words. He read me a book and sounded out the word "peculiar", which I thought was pretty good for a little kid. Mostly he played Wii video games, baseball, bowling, boxing.
