I can not believe the problems that I have been having with my bank......a few months back, they introduced a new policy where they hold your deposited checks for 24 hours.......I have a small business, and the money comes and goes like the tide.....I really thought that I was doing pretty well, but then this morning I checked my account and had 9 overdrafts! @36.50 per!......seems a customer of mine wrote me a bad check, and the good ol bank didn't bother to contact me....didn't bother to refuse debit charges.....didn't bother to tell me when I went in the branch to make a deposit.....AND they take out the charges from largest to smallest to increase the number of overdrafts on the account.....had they done it in reverse, I would only have one, and that could be charged to the customer that wrote me the bad check.

Has anyone else had any experiences similar to this?

You've got to watch the banks every second!
    I call ours up constantly.
We noticed the 24 hour thing a few months back and were quite disgusted by the remark, "Yes, you have $X,XXX in you account, but only XXX is available."
    What the..............?
Anyway, to be on the safe side from now on, I opened a cash reserve account which will work like a credit account, if any overdrafts happen due to bank stupidity.
It's like a credit reserve on your checking account, if any charges exceed your account, they are just added to the CR account.  No extra charges, if you pay it off at the end of the month.

D6 - That sucks.  I'd be ready to throttle someone - then I'd change banks.

.....then SC cuts off the other half of my comment.....

Does this bank have on-line banking?  Most do and that may help if you can physically see the transactions throughout the day.  I check my acctount at least once or twice a day.  I use the state credit union here even though I'm not a state employee.  Most of the time they will allow you to have an account if you can produce a long lost relative who is a state employee.  I'm very happy with my bank.  They only charge 50 cents for using the overdraft and it seems like it is 12.50 for a returned check.  I don't remember that part.  Anyway, my point is - you might consider that.  Hope it works out.

Did you get it straightened out D6?

yeah pretty much....I went into the bank and met with the manager....she said that she could reverse 4 of the nine....and that's when I said "you know, I think that this is really unfair business practices that your bank is doing here" and proceeded to point out how each policy creates additional fees......That's when she agreed to reverse all but 2....I was fine with that....I can penalize my customer for writing the bad check to cover it.
I really think that we will see something like this on 60 minutes or some other show......they need to be exposed.

I was told all banks are doing this now.....to make money.
Isn't interesting that this new check holding thingy, came on the brink of the welfare payout for the housing market!   All those naughty people who siged up for a variable rate interest on their mortgages!  Tsk, tsk............guess who's going to pay for it now?
