The page you were looking for no longer exists

I see this sentence every time I log on...what pray tell....have I set my self up for?
Do you know the sentence I mean?
We are logging on and we pause to allow the computer to continue...but at some point in time, a moment I have long forgotten, I made some choices about what I wanted and how I wanted things to be on my laptop. Freeze that frame and zoom OUT.

Bigger picture: what ARE my personal settings?

Since we are celebrating a brand new year...I have determined that I am ready to make some changes, additions, deletions...choosing again with new eyes, an open heart and a spirit of sharing.

Here we go...debuting here today, on this first day of January in 2008, in the world according to Mamie: The Soul Series. Inpired by Grace's weekly Sunday Seven, I will add my weekly column of good for our Soul(casters), maybe on Mondays, who knows? But weekly for sure...I will share insights from web sites that inspire me, books that move me and conversations that have me thrilled by new ideas and new ways of being.

So, first things first. Establishing my personal settings:

1. Gratitude is my attitude. I am not sure who said this but it is true for all...."the power of discovery in the journey is not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes..." God, thank you for giving me these eyes.
2. Abundance: I choose abundance in my life: in health, relationships, peace and joy. In all matters of the heart, I choose this. And so it is!
3. Balance: add equal parts of love, peace, worship, friendship, giving and receiving. I am cooking up a brand new year and I will need all of these!
4. Generosity: If I can remember that I should seek first to understand and then to be understood, I think I'll be able to stay in the light that generous souls share: growing their talents by giving them out to others, freely, no strings attached. (oh Gawd, I tend to love the strings attached part:)
And finally, a randomness about it, but it feels appropriate too...always always, a point to ponder. So here is our first....

5. Point To Ponder: the souls who touch usdeeply enough in that we feel hurt and wounded inour hearts...perhaps they have loved us MORE than we have ever been loved. Because
THEY helped us co-create a situation and time where we were brought to the brink of something really BIG. Really TRUE. Really AUTHENTIC.

Has someone loved you that much? What did you do about it? what are your personal settings?
Happy New Year!! And thanks for reading the first in the
Soul Series!!
love, love,
Mamie

mamie ~ I am no computer whiz by any means, but maybe its under "control panel" and the settings you made there , like your backdrop, screensaver, etc? I am so look fwd to reading your "soul series"
  • Mamie said on Jan 01, 2008....
thanks Quiet! I don't really need to make any setting changes on the actual computer...the changes to be made are on the harddrive of "moi". I just think I (over some time) have created some personal ways of being that could use an update. Thanks for reading!! :))

    Ms. Mamie,

Yep.  Definately on the "nice" list.

Looking forward to your series, especially that "spirit of sharing" part.  You have learned well, young padewan.

This was nice to read. I think it's a great idea for a series. I'd have to think really hard to come up with my own list of settings though. But I liked reading this!

What a wonderful idea....soul series.  I, for one, will look forward to reading each week.  My personal settings need some tweaking  and your words are always such an inspiration.

     Happy New Year Mamie Girl!!!!

I love your idea of a Soul Series.  I will look forward to it each week.

Speaking of gratitude....I was in a bookstore yesterday and came across a very nice leather gratitude journal.  As I flipped through it, I smiled thinking you would love it.  :-)  When I see the word gratitude, I always think of your kindness.

    Quiet: giggling....no sweat!

ET: I think you captured it in your recent blog recounting what a difference a year makes...that is truly a chage of your personal settings, with the "joy and love" switches turned all the way up! :))

Jenna: this soul business is never done, is it?

what is it with this thing eating my comments? Sorry if I forgot anyone! The word gremlins ate my comments every time! Argggghhhh!
  • hotaka said on Jan 01, 2008....

That's a really cool concept, your own "personal settings." Good thing is that you can change them whenever you want. I like yours and I subscribe to them myself. How well I do depends on my mood. I am not like a computer that should do the same thing every time you turn it on (in human terms "wake up").

Generosity, gratitude and abundance in non-material things are true for me. Balance is a tough one. I am always more on one square than any other, though I jump squares every other week. I would have to add ambition. I still want to push my talents more, as much as possible, but also I strive to be a great husband and father this year. I will become both a little later on.

    Good luck to you, Mamie.

Greetings Hotaka: thanks for checking in from those gorgeous frozen cliffs! You add a nice point to the list too: ambition, striving...growing and pushing...are so important to keep growing as human beings...the balance part will keep us from morphing into human doings vs. human BEINGS...so thanks for the stretch goals, I like it!
Good luck this year with your marriage and the baby on the way...you think you know how much love is in your heart right now? It is about to explode into the biggest love you have ever seen. I am so happy for you!
Thanks Rolling C! I appreciate it and am glad you are along for this ride...
welcome Lioness, snuggle in and lets get to the heart of the matter...
Hi Ed! Thanks for your support.
And I agree, this first entry is a deep one. I hope people are actually thinking about it. I think I should have announced the series and THEN put up the question. Oh well, you can't be more of a rookie at this, than I am.
I do believe you had the first original series and then when Grace came along with hers, I knew that I had a little song in my heart, ready to sing it...just be glad this isn't Youtube!! :)) have a great day!

What a cool post! I am looking forward to your soul series. I was thinking about my settings and I think I need to update as well. I need more compassion for others. I seem to get wrapped up in my own issues sometimes that I forget that others are hurting to.
  • Battycat said on Jan 21, 2008....

  • Mamie said on Jan 21, 2008....
hey Vacant and Batty! Great to see you. Well now, Vacant, now that we have that shared experience I can tell you that is definitely one of expanded COMPASSION,  so that is one good thing about it! Blessed be!!
