"Tommy", the movie was on Turner Classic Movies (it just ended a few minutes ago).

I had forgotten how much I love that movie (probably because I love THE WHO) and how hot Roger Daltry was in this movie!

But more importantly, I was trying to think of some of my favorite classic movies (although, I wouldn't call TOMMY a classic but as it is now more than 30 years old, I guess people would qualify.)

I was a huge fan of MGM movie musicals when I was growing up:  Singing In the Rain, On the Town, and of course, The Wizard of Oz.

Of course there are so many movies out there that I absolutely loved - A Clockwork Orange, The Shining (both Stanley Kubrick movies), Stripes, Animal House, The Notebook, ....

And then I realized, I haven't been to the movies in aboout 4 years because I hate the movie going experience nowadays. When I can sit on my nice comfy couch, bundled in my fuzzy pjs and matching fuzzy slippers, watch it on a big screen t.v that's hooked up to my stereo and stop the DVD if I gotta go get a drink or snacks from the kitchen, or even go to the loo - why would I want to spend an arm and a leg to see a half an hour of commercials and previews and then a mediocre movie which nowadays they all seem to be, while cell phones ring and people talk... Not for me anymore. Plus, I have a bigger selection nowadays with DVD rentals.

What is your most favorite movie of all times?

Diva:  I love "Cuckoo's Nest"  I actually only recently saw the whole thing.  I have a really simple, silly goal and thats to take the AMC list of the Top 100 movies of all times and see every one of them I haven't.  Now I don' t plan on doing that in a weekend, but certainly would love to see all of them before I expire.

As for Mr. Nicholson - ya gotta love Jack!  Check him out in one of his very first movie roles:  the masochistic dental patient in the original version of Little Shop Of Horrors.   But I will wait till the "Bucket List" comes out on DVD or HBO to see it.

JLo I could do without - but for pure mindless entertainment it's a good rainy day fare.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TOO!

    I have to choose ONE?

It would have to be The Matrix Trilogy then.

(And I know that's three, but it's still one.  At least in my mind.  LOL)

Ed:  I LOVE THE PRINCESS BRIDE!!! :o

Grace:  I will let you get away with the three for one deal but only because I never got into the Matrix series so I have no knowledge about them. And before anybody else want to bring up a series, Yes you can count all of the Lord of the Rings  as one and the Bourne Identity series if you wish... I never got into sequels.

I still love seeing a movie in the theater.  :-)  It's a good escape for me.

    My favorite movie is Casablanca.

    CW
  • FutureGoddess said on Dec 31, 2007....

Good choice CW - I am also a huge Bogie fan!  When I was in college I majored in English with an Emphasis on Film Criticism.  I actually have a degree to give a thumbs up/thumbs down at movies.  How silly is that?  I only took all the film classes because they were easy A's for me.  I love movies, love to criticize, and can write fairly well (if I must say so myself).  As a result of these classes, I got to see many of the classics: Casablanca, many films from the Hitchcock Oeuvre, oh and one film I fogot to mention that I absolutely love:

    Blade Runner!

The Godfather, Goodfellas, Apocalyse Now...just to name a few of my all time favorites.

I went to the movies in 2007 more than ever before. I saw Premonition, Harry Potter 5, and goodness knows the rest of them. You're right, a lot of movies these days are rubbish. And it costs too much to go see them in the theater AND yeah, it's not nearly as comfortable as being at home.

AHA! Better add Psycho, Vertigo, and Rear Window to my all time favorites list!

These may not be the most popular on the list of all time best..
What is unusual about each one is that some new elements
were introduced that made the film stand out uniquely and
as a standard for others to follow. Vanishing Point, for example, gave us the "road" picture, while wild Bunch introduced the concept of a corpse spouting realistic blood and gore; and the notion of the new replacing the old.
Tommy, a" Rock Opera, is many things, incorporating style,Jack Nicholson and Ann Margaret ball room dancing,
and Oliver Reed as the anti Hero who gets rid of the war hero, the captain, so he and Ann margaret can live lavishly,
like the stars of old. Tommy is the kid unseeing, hearing, or feeling, after witnessing the captain's murder. Music, song, and drama--a true opera.  Only it's pure rock with some very classic artists, including EltonJohn and Keith Moon.
Anyway, you get the picture, or will if you bother to check
any of these out. Some you will have to order. Find out all
    about "rosebud" in Citizen Kane.
Why were there objections to the "peace talking" soldier's
commentary in Naked and the Dead?
Easy Rider exploded on the scene, a totally new kind of film...seen it?  If not, you must.
Shades of james Dean and marlon Brando with Nicholson and method acting. The music and photography; excellent.
Please feel free to ask a question and add your own if you wish.  I enjoyed reading the favorites; I have seen many of them and enjoyed them too.

    Antonioni, Blowup
    Zbrisky, Vanishing Point
Chekhov,s Cherry Orchard and Hedda 'Gabler
    Wild Strawberries
Steve Mcqueens enemy of the People
Mailer's, naked and the dead--New version
    Chaplin's, City Lights...all his talkies
Kessey's One flew over cuccoo nest
    Gibsons, hamlet
     K.Douglas' Paths of Glory
    M. Dougless, War of the Roses
    Cooper's, High Noon
    Disney's, Fantasia
    Peckenpaw's, Wild Bunch
    Nicholsen, Easy rider
    The Who, tommy
Waugh's, The Loved One --Jonathen Winters, Sir John Gilguid
Redford and Newman's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
    Orsen Wells, Citizen Kane
Walter Huston, treasure of the Sierra Madre
    John Huston, China Town

Wow Red - that is some list!  I actually agree with all of them (well with the many of those I have seen).  Thanks for your input and thanks for the compliment on my writing style.

How could I forget the Godfather movies? but not GF III which is a turkey. Pachino doesn't pull it off. the casino helicopter gunship scene is stupid. the Cardinal scenes? Possible. I' ll keep my eyes on your blogs.

Team Edward or Team Jacob...
Precious a gripping tale of a young woman’s struggle to overcome her past opens in theaters. The film’s main character is Claireece “Precious” Jones, an abused teen mother who is dark-skinned, overweight and illiterate....
Disney now has a new black princess which seems much more important to adults than little girls of all races...
I went to the video store looking for films to buy, but they were all chick flix. Are all of the good movies from the past?
I ended up buying that old movie MASH which was fun, but very old. Donald Sotherland is always good, but I want something new...
Some of my favorite movies reviewed!...
