Reykjavik New Year 2007

Found this and as Destiny said well we have fireworks too this is the answer.

Then the weather has been so bad the last 24 hours and the  forecast says it will be like this on News Years Eve. Then it will not be like it is usual. Never mind we will shoot on the 6th of January then. It is our last day of Christmas and we usually have bonfires then. So called Fairy bonfires when all kind of beings take part.
The picture is taken from my window today, The snow is going. I would rather like to have it until the new year. This is what I found. REYKJAVIK ICELAND NEW YEAR 2007

What is special about new year's eve in Reykjavik, is that nearly every

family fires its own set of fireworks, making the night one of the biggest

firework-shows on earth. The Reykjavik-city estimates that more than

500.000 fireworks will be used this year, weighting more than 1.000 tons!

scald -  that is quite a display! I hope the weather is not too bad to bad for the celebration! The bigger picture here reminds me of a Van  van Gogh painting! It is very good! And the smaller picture is beautiful with the color and the fireworks. Have a good new year!

not much left of the snow men the children made just last week!  Our snow is almost gone also (I am happy though).  The picture of the city is so awesome...what a sight that must be in real life!  The refelction off the water just adds to the beauty.  "tons" of fun.  :)

Quiet.  Thanks. Yes I would like the snow to be until the new year and then it can go. We are really flooded here with rain now.

I really loved that picture of the fireworks! It's gorgeous. And the view from your window is really nice too, especially with the little bits of snow falling. It sounds like you guys have such wonderful celebrations there in Iceland! I think I'm putting that place on my list of somewhere I'd like to visit someday. It seems kind of magical there.

skald, that looks incredibly cool! how lovely it all looks--and of course, with the clear skies that so often appear in your pictures, it must be positively stunning to see!

Hoo boy, the weather doesn't look too good for fireworks.  Skald, I'm curious -- what time of day was the second picture taken?  It looks like it's getting dark, but it's hard for me to guess what time that is.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful 2008.  :)

Natalie. Happy new year to you and thank you.
Mamie.  Happy new year Mamie. Have a good time.
MissMimi.  It was taken at 11 am. would you believe. The day was so dark, I saw the streetlights go off at 3pm. They are tune to the day light. They go on at a special light and off again at a special degree of darkness or light. It was dark again about 4.
    Have a good 2008 Mimi
Polar.  Have a wonderful new year too my dear. (((((Hugs)))))
