Time for some questions everyone. I hope you find these thought provoking and interesting.

1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

That's it ladies and gentlemen. Hope someone answers this. I'm always curious to read the answers.

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

Not likely at all. I was duped pretty well once (and only once thus far) as to someone's true nature though, and I paid heavily for it. I might have a trusting nature, but there's definitely a cold hard machine under it, processing facts and drawing conclusions.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

A mix of both - facts for the courtroom, and to back up or refute my initial impressions...intuition/hunches because I'm not too shabby at this character thing these days and sometimes the truth is between the lines of what you think you know.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Oh yeah. I don't always say anything on it, but it's hard to lie to me and get away with it - especially in person, though my lie-dar isn't half bad online.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

I think everyone's been caught in a lie at some point during childhood/adolescence, if nothing else. I 'fessed up - things would've been more than twice as bad if I'd tried to cover it up or slip out of trouble somehow.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

No - my integrity is worth more than that.

Ms. Infernal....Your answers don't surprise me at all. You strike me as sensitive, yet very smart. You can take good care of yourself.

And I knew your integrity would be important to you too. Thank you for answering.

  • Mr_Box said on Dec 28, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

Nope. Not a chance. My will is way too strong for something like that.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

I would follow my hunches, and then presumably if I was right, I'd find the facts to back them up.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

99% of the time, yes. I do believe I can tell. Especially if they're lying right to my face. If they lie online or over the phone, I might be fooled. Maybe.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Yes, when I was a teenager I lied to get out of trouble. And I was caught once, and had no choice but to admit it. That sucked.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

No I never would. It's not about being caught by the law anyway. It's about your conscience.

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Dec 28, 2007....
Thanks for your kind words, Mr. Box. :) I figured you were much the same, and your answers above just underscore that.

    I can't resist quizzes/questionnaire-type things. :-D

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

Yes, I am succeptible to all sorts of garbage.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

    My hunches, after the facts...

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Yes, they look up to the sky, usually to the left, I think, before they answer.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Yes, I told another lie on top of that one...

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

I did, once, but quite by accident. (sort of)

  • travelr712 said on Dec 28, 2007....

are you compiling these questions and crossrefferencing by screen name to use them against us later? :-P

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

no. or at least it would be very, very hard.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

i would follow my hunches and then find facts to back them up. that's what all scientific research is based on.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

    if i'm paying attention, yes.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

it depends who i was caught by ;-)

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught

you mean other than speeding? no.

  • evil_twin said on Dec 28, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

Not likely. I think I can be influenced sometimes to think certain ways, but in the end, my brain slaps the shit out of me and I wake up. So an actual brainwashing would be really hard to accomplish on me.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

Hunches mostly. But if my hunches could never be supported with facts, I'd have to rethink that tactic!

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Yes, always. Or almost always. If I didn't tell, then I don't know if I was lied to or not!

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Yes....and I usually admit it, but I try to make myself look better by laying out all the reasons for the lie.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

No. I'd still know I did it.

  • nursecutie said on Dec 28, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

I really doubt it. I am way too stubborn and strong willed! But I would be sneaky and pretend I was brainwashed......just so my evil captors would think I was with them. And then I'd make my escape!!

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

I would follow the facts first, and then use my hunches to sort through them.....

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Yes, usually. Sometimes people are really good at it though.....

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Yes, I have been caught! And I usually try and turn it around so that the original lie wasn't quite as bad as it seemed at first.....damage control!

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

Umm, no. I did steal some lipstick before when I was a teenager and I never got caught......but I have outgrown my life of crime!

  • wombat said on Dec 28, 2007....
Wo, Wo, Wo...nursecutie....my crime was stealing some eyeliner....I sort of knew I did it, but went ahead to see if I could get away with it.

I had  dumped my purse into the cart to look for something, then scooped everything back up--eyeliner included.

When I checked out, I knew the eyeliner was in my purse, burning like a flame of Hell.

I still checked out without confessing.

No excuse, except I think I was rebelling against my ex, and maybe hoping to get caught.  I still owe about $3 to this little store from about 15 years ago, and I will never do it again.

A few years later, my son had stashed pencils, protractor and such into a school box that we were buying.  I didn't know it, and neither did the clerk.

When I saw it after leaving the store, I went back and showed a clerk--and paid for the stuff inside the box.  I wanted to teach my son not to do what I had done.  I think he remembered this and to this day, I , nor my son,  would not do such a thing.  So maybe something good came of it?
  • Mr_Box said on Dec 28, 2007....
Ms. Infernal....no one can ever resist these quizzes can they? I love 'em too which is why I post them. You are welcome for the kind words.

wombat.....you are getting sleepy....you will give Mr. Box all your money.....and a back rub.....did that work?

I hope you're not really susceptible to everything. If you resisted that bit of hypnotic suggestion, you're doing okay.

traveler.....I just like questions. But if Wombat gives me her money and that back rub, then this post had a purpose!

I guess speeding is a crime. And I do that all the time and don't get caught.

Kyle.....I think that a lot of people can be easily influenced, but usually you do snap out of it and realize you're being played for a fool.

And you are the king of guilt so I know you'd never do anything wrong just because you wouldn't get caught. Your conscience is your punisher.

Miss Cutie.....shame on you. Stealing lipstick? At least your life of crime is over now.

Damage control is always important. And kudos to you for tricking your brainwashing captors into thinking you were with them.

Then you can escape. Nice plan. You're a smart one.
  • wombat said on Dec 28, 2007....

    2. facts. hunches have a way of leading people to violate due process.

    3. sometimes yes, sometimes not a frigging clue. :>

    4. i generally try to avoid lying but when it's happened i can usually snow my way out of a problem.

ohh, money and a backrub from wombie, who could turn that down?
  • Eilan said on Dec 28, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

I don't think so, but I suppose anything's possible. It would probably have to be something other than a cult or an abusive husband.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

    I'd probably focus on facts.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

It depends on the person. If it's my brother, then I know he's lying because his lips are moving. Other people are better at it, however.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Not since fourth grade. At least not that I can recall. Doesn't mean I haven't lied, of course.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

It depends. The only time I ever had to go to court for something, I lied under oath because telling the truth would have had legal and financial implications for four people. In that situation, honesty would have made me look like a vindictive bitch. I'm being deliberately vague here, but rest assured it sounds like a bigger deal than it actually was (though it was perjury), and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I could commit a crime if it meant protecting my children, even if I knew I might get caught and punished.

  • phoeby said on Dec 28, 2007....

    i love these quizzie things...

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

hmmm... i wish i could say no. And generally it would be no because i use my intuition a lot with everyday things. But i have to say with emotional matters i can be brainwashed. Or maybe manipulated is a better description. Perhaps not anymore? *fingers crossed*

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

    hunches, facts bore me lol

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

usually instantly, except when i really really really really really want to believe in their integrity. My wish for them to be honest colours my braincells *hits head - doh doh doh*

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

oh it was horrible. I was in grade 3. Loved my teacher to bits. She was the loveliest person i had in my life at the time. And i actually said something bitchy and mean to one of the girls at school and this girl told my favourite teacher. The teacher looked at me and gave me the benefit of the doubt and said "phoeby has a heart of gold, she would NEVER have done that angelique" arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. *shamefaced* i didn't fess up. i didn't want her to think i was a toad underneath. *cringe* i definatley weaseled.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

Never. Except i do drive too fast which is technically a crime. oops.

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

No, I’m much too stubborn for that to happen.

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your  hunches?

Tough one..I’d follow my hunches about the facts.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Always.  Liars give you too much information. Short answers sound more truthful.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

    No.  See  how it works?

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

    Yes.

I answered and then went back to read everyone's answers....I sound like a horrible person!  I'm not, honestly!  I'm not quick enough on my feet to lie, so I tell the truth in a "Yeah, so what are you gonna do about it?" tone of voice to put the other person on the defensive.

And I'd never commit a crime against humanity, like mug an old person, or steal something, or kill someone.....okay, I'm changing #5 to "No".  Jeez, I don't even speed!

  • GracefullyGrowing said on Dec 29, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

Some have tried.  I've never been brainwashed, but I have allowed myself to be heavily influenced.  I wanted to please them so I took on their opinion as my own.  That will *never* happen again.  I learned my lesson.  In light of that experience, as far as everyday life was concerned, no I don't think I could be brainwashed.  However, if I was in a war or hostage type situation - I can't say I *couldn't* be brainwashed.  The brain sometimes has a mind of it's own - going into a mode of protection or what have you.  (Gee.... was I rambling?)

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

Hunches first, stacking up the facts.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Usually.  Sometimes I choose to let them lie.  It's good information to have at times.

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Oh yes.  I have.  And if I get caught, I fess up. Heck, I sometimes even fess up if I DON'T get caught.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

    Nope.  Not on purpose.

    ~Grace~

I'm with Ed on this one - I agree with all his answers!

Just to say that I am not a suspicious person by nature, but I have an amazing 6th sense and when that "little voice" speaks to me I know to pay attention.  This has helped me to know the truth from lies when it counted.

    1. probably, esp. if you seem sincere about it.
    2. hunches definitely, theya re always spot on
    3. yes, but I also usually have an inkling as to why they feel they have to lie
    4. and 5. too much catholic school. I would likely die of guilt if I didn't come clean.
No intrigue to breaking a law...i know some people find it kind of fun...just no interest...
  • gingersoul said on Dec 29, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

A supposedly friend of mine tried to do so, when i was younger...he was in love with me and tried desperately to convince me in any way to agree with his point of views. I slapped him on the face and threw him out of my car. End of our friendship. I am stubborn, i follow my gut and i am usually pretty much on guard with people.. But if you talk to me soflty and give me roses...i might even believe you...lol... Seriously...i think people tend to believe what they want to believe sometimes...despite the facts.....sad but true....

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

Definetely my instict.....up to now it rarely failed.

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Oh, well......i come from a marriage where i have been lied straight to my face even with the evidences laid on the table.....but i knew he was lying sometimes even before he would start to make up lies.....only few times he fooled me good....

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Small white lies....yes, i am great in covering them up if caught off guard....But serious lies....well....when i have been asked to confess something i could have easily denied i just couldn't lie...i had to say the truth...i am a person who prefer to know ...so i thought it was right treating that person in the same way i was asking to be treated......and, believe me, i could have lied without any way for him to know the truth....

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

It depends.....:-). I stole stuff when i was younger, i cheated on school tests, i smoked weed and took acid, i drunk alcohol underage, i broke into other people property and i still drive too fast sometimes......lol............i dont think there is one person who never, ever did anything against the law.....are those above actions to be considered "crimes" though?...

  • Mr_Box said on Dec 29, 2007....

wombat......my hypnotic powers worked. I'm amazed. I look forward to the back rub.

Ed.....restraint is very important. Just because you can get away with something, doesn't mean you should do it.

eilan.....I always wondered how many people might lie under oath if it meant protecting someone important.

phoeby.....I'm glad you like the quiz thingies. They are a fun way to get to know people.

I think that a lot of good people, desperately want to see and believe the good in others. And that's why they tend to be manipulated sometimes.

But you just have to be able to discern what's actually good and what's self serving for them.

I drive too fast too, so I guess that is a crime.

lfbno.....very quick answers. I guess taking drugs is a crime and most people aren't caught for that.

Miss Diva.....at least you can recognize it when someone is trying to change your thoughts, and back away in time. That's important.

twyla.....I think you're a normal person. I suppose my last question should have been more precise. I think everyone has broken a law or two in their time.

But a serious offense is something most of us probably would never do, even if we could get away with it.

grace.....liars do give you interesting information sometimes. I usually let them lie too.

Mostly so I can see how far they'll take it before they either crumble under the pressure or forget what they've told, and to to whom. It's fun to watch.

polarheart.....listening to your intuition is a powerful tool. I'm glad you use it. It does help to determine who's genuine and who's not.

mamie.....such a good person! No law breaking and going to confession regularly. That's good. That shows you have a good and pure heart.

gingery.....you were quite the rebel in your youth. Naughty girl. You are quite right that people tend to believe what they want to believe.

Your gut might be telling you it's not truth, but if you want desperately for it to be true, you'll believe it.

  • gingersoul said on Dec 29, 2007....

    1) Do you think you could ever be brainwashed?

No, I believe I am a person who is easily influenced by other people but I can always hold my own in something I specifically believe in!

    2) If you were a detective, would you be more apt to follow the facts or your hunches?

I would be much more inclined to follow my hunches whilst remembering some of the facts. Man how I'd love to be a detective!!!!!

    3) If someone lies to you, can you usually tell?

Yes although it does depend on whether it is a face to face conversation or txt/phone, its often easier to tell a lie from a face to face convo than a txt message because things can be interpreted in many different ways, a phone conversation at least you have tone of voice to go by..

    4) Ever been caught in a lie? If so, what did you do? Fess up or try and weasel your way out of it?

Small white lies, no, have never been caught telling them, but if I was I would probably cover up. But a serious lie..well i confess the truth because in the end if the person who confronts you hears the truth from you it is more likely that they will trust you again than if they find out some other way. However I tend to take the truthful road more often than not, it is usually the better way even though some implications may be harsh.

    5) Would you ever commit a crime if you knew you'd never get caught?

it would depend on the crime...so..maybe..but nothing too serious it wuld have to be a petty crime otherwise the guilt i'd feel would eat me up!

Just a word from me, I need to ask you a couple of questions....
Please? Oh come on, it'll be fun. :-)...

WHY

Do you know the answer?...
and the abuse question came up.

i answered all her questions.... i haven't been reluctant to talk about it since the relationship ended... it's been very healing.... i'm past the point of needing to talk about it though and generally it only...
...Maybe for forver.....
