Soulcast is, for the most part, a great idea- blog, set up an adsense easily, and get paid. The third step, however, is somewhat of a problem- not because it takes more than a few minutes to do, but because, in reality, nobody clicks on google ads.

Let's face it. 99 percent of the time, the advertisements google "intelligently" selects have absolutely nothing to do at all when viewing the post. My favorites are the Ebay links that advertise an intangible thing or idea- "Great deals on post!," though plenty others come close.

I've given up on getting paid. Heck, if I earn two cents from blogging a year, I'll be thrilled. The truth is that any substantial income won't happen, and sure as heck not as long as these hairbrained ads keep coming up.

Then again, that's not what I'm here for. I enjoy blogging when I'm not writing in some other way, and the nice thing about soulcast is that it's still rather small- not meant in a bad way, but instead that you can interact with people. (It's also quite fun to try to make "bunnies" the most popular tag, but there you go.)

I was just wondering if there were any users that found themselves clicking on ads listed on the site. If so, please comment! Thanks. :-)

Two things: I clicked on one of my ads one time--in follow up to someone's comment on one of my blogs. Because it was my own, it does not count. When I am on my BlackBerry, it does not support any visuals for Adsense at all. It is kind of like having a streamlined version of SoulCast; which is okay, if you do not care about making a profit.

I have ranted about this very point here and there, and maybe even in a post. I forget. Anyway, I totally agree. I would think SoulCasters are the only ones really spending any time here. If an outsider did drop in, why would they click the ads? I occasionally remember to click an ad, but not that much. I think the answer is just forget about making any real money and just have fun. However, I followed MrHowTo's advice and pasted the blacklist of ad sites into my AdSense deal. I think my profits have increase a minute amount. Write on.

Thanks for the comment. Hopefully the ad service will be upgraded someday...

you from what you said, I suddenly felt a little turned off, when it comes to making money in blogging. now atleast I know that the pot of gold in blogging is way beyond infinite reach from now. i guess i'll just enjoy this stuff. by the way how long have you been blogging?

I have had a theory regarding the behaviour of SoulCasters regarding viewing and clicking on each other's Ads. You can read about it here if you want to... ||{1}||

I think it will be ideal to get loads of other people to read the threads and posts. But it aslo help to get paying ads clicked by regular users. SO, promote soulcast and get technorati or something, I think this blacklist sounds good too cause I keep getting rubish ads. I don't kn ow what I'm getting at...bye

You're right. Whether it's on my own blog site or on here, I don't think anyone is clicking. I don't really pay any attention to the ads either when I'm reading other people's posts, so I think the attention-grabbing element is lacking in the adsense ads. I suspect it only works if you are searching to buy something specific, or if your posts are very niche (on one topic only). Heck, I don't even know how to attract attention to my posts, let alone the google ads!

I gave up on the AdSense thing shortly after I enrolled. In fact, I have no idea how much money I have made--if I have made any at all. Posts? I can say in my experience, it helps to come up with a catchy title & description. It helps if you toss in a little controversy. I happen to have an overabundance, which I could do without (want some?). Oh, I also try to reply to my comments & network with new members. Silverwhisper was the first to extend a welcome to me. It only seems right (and fair) that I do the same thing. Take the time to subscribe to the authors that you really like. Like you, they want feedback, too. Besides comments, subscribing to a post is one of the most positive forms of feedback in the SoulCast world. Hey--it's just my theory. Feel free to contradict me.

I agree totally with you, anyway I came here to learn and not to make money, for making money, u need to post to tons of blogs with adsense, hoping that some 1 clicks on them... Butall in soulcast don't click on them... I clicked on some ads, because I was genuinely interested in thrm and wanted to know what they w ere selling, not for increasing or manipulation. I think that if at all any 1 were to make money, it would be Soulcast and not any members.

i know people that make good money with ads, but you need a LOT of page views. I.e. you have to market yourself. However, I don't do any marketing, but I still make a few bucks here and there. As the site grows we'll all get more clicks.
  • purple said on Aug 03, 2006....
Laughs. I came here to make money. I already have tons of blogs (as if blogs weigh anything). The only reason I came to soulcast was because of a banner ad I saw on Journalspace.com that said "Make money blogging." But it doesn't say with 'adsense'. I already had google adsense blogs on my blogger.com blogs, and I already wasn't getting rich there, so I was disappointed at getting suckered in by the banner ad. Shows you how desperate I am to not starve to death.

"I already had google adsense blogs on my blogger.com blogs, and I already wasn't getting rich there, so I was disappointed at getting suckered in by the banner ad." There is a difference though. I have a blogger account as well, but no one ever reads my blogger blog. I get a lot of readers on here and it's increasing as time goes on. I've only made a few bucks on here, but I've made 0 on blogger and i've had a blogger blog for years. This one is only a couple of months old. Making money is all about getting page views. This site gets me far more page views than blogger so the fact that they both use adsense doesn't make them the same in my eyes.

I do check my adsense account and yes, gradually cents by cents it's adding up, but I won't be booking my o/s holiday anytime soon. When you see that you have so many reads and few if any clicks on ads it can be disheartening if you are hoping to earn big bucks. I think a guy who claimed to be earling huge dollars had some thousands of websites and blogs. That sounds too hard for me. I do click on ads occasionally as they pique my interest, so someone must be getting a few cents from my "contribution."

I think we should start a group where we all go to each others blogs and click on their ads a few times. We would tell each other what our blog names are and go to their blogs and keep clicking on each others ads at least 5 to 10 times. That way, we are guaranteed that we will get paid. If we create a large group with tons of people, then we could double, even triple our income (or what we expected to make). I'm going to start this group. I'm going to call it AdSensers. If you would like to triple your income e-mail me at marquislock@yahoo.com or go to my blog at www.soulcast.com/marquislock16. DON'T MISS OUT!!!! p.s. TELL A FRIEND AND HAVE THEM TELL A FRIEND AND SO ON. This will help you and I!!!
  • anonymous said on Aug 03, 2006....
@marquislock16 we get posts like yours all the time. Do you really think google is so dumb as to not notice click fraud? Go ahead and try if you like, but you won't see any of that money and your account will be banned and your ip address marked.
  • dmalha said on Aug 03, 2006....
I think you will need to have large number of readers in whcih you could expect a certain percentage of them to click your ads. In order to achive that you will need to have tons of blogs which could be achieved through spending a lot of time writing and posting them.
  • anonymous said on Aug 03, 2006....
I think the group thing from marquislock16 is a cool thing. whatever helps my income. google won't notice if we keep the group name out of it. how would they find out unless they are actually told who does it. as long as we don't keep clicking on each other ads back to back. we should do different ads and go back to the same blogs at different times of the day, that way it wouldn't look so suspicious!! Me, personaly, i'm up for the group!!!
  • Elly said on Aug 03, 2006....
Yes, you need to have a large readership - that is the key. It is not permitted by Google to ask people to click on the ads, and certainly not arrange to have a group click on each other's ads. Write good stuff, and increase your readership.

It's definitely fradulent to organize "click" groups, I'll tell you that. As for asking people to click on your ads: google will murder you while you sleep.
  • coreyt said on Aug 03, 2006....
Yes Broncostar, You should have left a link, I would have clicked and read.. I'm not the only one that always does this. You should read my most recent blog entitled: The Truth About Affliate Marketing Any questions feel free to email me at: need_a_telecommute_job@yahoo.ca Sincerely, Corey
  • Heartwalker said on Aug 03, 2006....
Yep, I agree with Bronce, U aptly put it... Google will murder u when u sleep. .. I would like to share an incident here... I opened my adsense accountfrom Google in my home Pc, Later when My mother used the same pc to create an adsense account for her in google, google sent a reply stating that the internet address is already located for someone else, (meaning me and it gave my email address) and stated that she can use my adsense publisher id. Also they added that if we had other problems they would assist.... what assistance they would provide,...GOD only knows... As for marquislock16... you should know better than to start such groups... Google has technology for determining any patterns of clicking and permanently disable and debar them. If this information goes to the notice of SC, they will disable u forever. I click on ads not for giving revenue to others, but for knowing more about all this computers stuff and to learn in general. I have not receivd any clicks on my ads and it does not matter much to me, because I am here mainly to learn, and even though I need the money, it still is a secondary option to me, I can't risk my integrity and possibly be banned forever.
  • Adbright said on Aug 03, 2006....
Hi, Heartwalker dont get me wrong, what i meant is i will click on some1 no matter who he is without any 'appointment'

ok Adbright, I understnad ur true intentions to help the poor fellas, I too do it, out of a desire to learn... I got ur point... mm m thanx for clarifying. I think this method of communication by comments is very frustrating... I hope sc does something like notifying us with a popup window, whenever some one responds, Now what I do is... I open my mail inbox in another window and it alerts me whenever someone responds, bu that is cumbersome, I am online now, see if u can chat with me on heartywalk at gmail dot com

oops , I did it again,, I also want to know how this tags work,... I am not able to tag in my comments now, why ?
  • Broncostar said on Aug 04, 2006....
I think, Heartwalker, that there is a maximum number of tags on any given post. Here's an interesting question: let's say that you're genuinely interested in an advertisement on your own page. Is it really click fruad to click on this? After all, the ads are there so that people are finding out about the products, and if you wish to find out more about them, isn't that what the advertiser is paying google (and you) for? Just a thought...
  • Heartwalker said on Aug 04, 2006....
Technically Bronco, we ar wrong, because we are clicking on our own ads. But if u ask me my personal opinion, it is right, since we are doing it, because we are interested in it genuinely and not clicking on it for moneys' sake. But I think SC does not permit it, so what I do is, I hover the mouse pointer on top of the ad and the address gets displayed in the left hand bottom side of the window, so I get to know the address. I open a new window and type in the address there and visit the new site, but Once or twice in the beginning out of curiosity I clicked on my ads, without knowing that I was doing a wrong thing, then I stopped doing t and found out this better way and legal way of finding out new addresses by not slisking on the ads.
  • anonymous said on Aug 04, 2006....
@anonymous "google won't notice if we keep the group name out of it. how would they find out unless they are actually told who does it." google is much smarter than you. I can easily see a way to tell that such a group exists so I'm sure google can as well.

I do! I click atleast one ad after I read a post. It's some kind of a way of saying thank you for giving me sumtin to read. Also, I heard that's how you do it. I click yours, you click mine. Correct me if I'm wrong...But I think it really is like that. One night I was pretty active reading ppl's blogs and clicking them ads, I made bout over 1 dollar in one night. Not too bad I'd say ;)
