I'll do the obligatory Christmas post some other time. Right now I'm exhausted and all think-y and not that coherent.

Linebacker baby update: He's doing SO much better, as of the past 24 hours or so! We did make it to my grandparents' house on Sunday (he was starting to fare better by then, although we did have a few unpleasant episodes). I wonder now if he had rotovirus or something, although you'd think little one would've caught it quite easily if that were the case (or maybe my crazy Clorox wipe-fest of the door handles and toys when I realized how sick he was spared her).

In my pictures from the past few days, he looks pale and thin, although I'm not sure you'd notice his loose clothes or complexion if you didn't already know. He's definitely feeling better though. His appetite is back to normal - now if only his sleep would get there! I know he'll bulk up again, but I'll worry a bit, since he was a pound "behind" at his six-month appointment, until he gets back on track.

Thank you for all of the get-better thoughts you've spared for one cute baby. :-D

It occurs to me that I'm behind on my Germany series. I just can't seem to carve out a block of time to sit down and do anything on it, but I will. It's not like throwing out a Pensieve - I actually want the Germany series to read decently well.

I could go to bed, linebacker baby willing, if I had sheets on my bed. They're clean, but I've been procrastinating getting them back on the mattress because I hate that. It's one of those little chores I find irksome, even though I love sleeping on fresh sheets. I wish I had a maid to wash them and remake my bed every other day or so.

What little chores bug you? That's the only one coming to mind for me at the moment, other than matching socks. I don't mind doing laundry, except for sheets and socks.

I have approximately $13 in cash. It's rare for me to have any cash on me at all. I don't remember why I have it, but it's crumpled under my camera bag here on my desk.

Did you know you can recycle your tree if you use a live one? You probably did know that, but in case you're interested, check out Earth 911 to see where your nearest "treecycling" (I groaned out loud whilst typing that, but that's what they call it) center is located.

Our tree looks pretty good, considering I haven't watered it quite as often as I technically should have. We put four spoonfuls of sugar in the initial stand-ful of water though, so maybe that's why - according to a green-thumbed friend of mine, it helps the water act more as a syrup or something, and the tree is better able to draw it up to the top and make use of it. I wasn't paying all that much attention, but I tend to soak up random gardening-type facts anyway, so we did it. It seems to have helped.

I want Käsespätzle. Maybe I'll do the German food entry next.

I have no idea what I had for supper, so it probably wasn't worth remembering. I can tell you what the kids ate, though. I guess that's a mom thing. Priorities.

And now, my friends, goodnight. I'm off to tackle the onerous chore of making my bed.

I'm glad LB is feeling better! And that you were able to celebrate the holiday with your family after all. I hate putting new sheets on the bed too. Natalie usually does it, so I guess I'm lucky! When it comes to socks, when I was living by myself, I'd just toss them all into my drawer unmatched. Why bother? They were all the same socks anyway!

Heh, DH does the same thing.  I am the weird OCD one who insists on matching all of his (and my) socks when I fold laundry.  He says, "They're all black! I don't really look, I just grab two from the drawer in the morning."  I say, "But there are the black ones with the logo on the top and then the black ones with no logo and then the ones with the different elastic and..."  The bad thing is, my socks really ARE all the same, and I still insist on pairing them.  As long as I'm not the one folding laundry, I don't really care what he does with his socks anymore (so long as the drawer still closes!) but I hate coming behind him putting a load of laundry away and there's just this mess of socks lying there.  I'll sit down and redo his entire drawer just so it won't drive me nuts.

I hate dusting.  I almost never do it, so it's not a big problem.  But I hate not knowing where to dust.  Back to the perfectionist OCD stuff.  I mean, the obvious thing is to dust where you see dust, right?  But then...what if I missed something? Surely there are places I didn't look, spots where dust gathers that slipped my mind..and in that case, the dusting isn't DONE!  It can never be done!  Short of dusting every square centimeter of every surface in my house, I can never be sure I got all the dust! argh!  So I always feel like I did a half-assed job - the place isn't clean; it just looks nice.  So I just wait until things get so dusty that the argh feeling over the dust is worse than the argh feeling I get from dusting :p

Also, I despise doing the dishes.  But I despise a dirty kitchen more, so I deal (it's always the case of the lesser of two evils with me, isn't it?)  And laundry.  If we had our own washer at least, I wouldn't mind.  But I hate gathering up all the laundry, finding quarters, toting it downstairs (and there are like 3 doors to open along the way) coming back upstairs, setting the timer, and making the return journey when it's done.  Ugh!  If left to my own devices, I do laundry once a week or so.  But he needs laundry two or three times a week so there is a lot of "mumble mumble your stinkin' laundry mubmle" which isn't really true but it's fun to think when you're grumpy about laundry to begin with.  At least I got one of those curved baskets that are easier and more comfortable to carry.  Before that, we had a square one that was broken in places so that I kept getting my shirt, fingers, whatever pinched in it.  I really hated the laundry then!  We have this deal between us - he hates to go out in the hallway in the evening after running into trouble with our neighbors; I hate hanging laundry on the rack and putting away the clean stuff.  So I take it downstairs and bring it back up, and he puts the old stuff away and hangs the new stuff.  Saves me the sock problem, most of the time.  Except every few weeks I have to reorganize the whole dresser, of course.

I'm SO glad you got to keep your plans on Sunday, and even more glad that he's getting better! :D

little chores that bug me? right now, it's fetching water in a place with no running water. but it's good early morning exercise... :-) laundry sans washing machine has always been a huge chore for me. a necessary evil imposed by lower forms of civilization. worse than going to the dentist. machine laundry is just a little bit more tolerable... :-)

when we were kids, we had two christmas trees. one was the usual cut-off conifer (usually pine, sometimes cypress). the other was outdoors, a tall araucaria just beside the patio, which was my favorite because it was alive, really huge, and we could keep the bulbs and decor on beyond the traditional jan. 6.

hope your linebacker baby is doing better and better... :-)

Kyle: Thanks. :) I'm glad he's better, too! I think it's a guy thing to not give socks a second thought. :-D

nyt: I don't like dusting, either! Luckily, most of our surfaces see so much use that it's not too much of a problem, but the fan blades are really bad at times because I hate cleaning them and can't seem to find the time. (Eww.) Sounds like you have a good rhythm going with your DH and the laundry situation!

moon: I think I'd like hand-washing everything if I had time to do it, but I can see it being more of a hassle if I had no other option.

That's really cool about the outdoor tree! I wish we were in a place where we could do something like that (no trees at all on the rock-strewn grounds around the apt building where I live).

somethingunUSual: So I saw. ;-) I was pretty sure TNP had it, since I went out of town the day before the "mystery" ended.
