it's been over a week since the last time i posted a blog--for me, an eternity.

i've been pretty busy, running around with that database project. i'm around halfway through the hours i estimated it taking. it's possible i may actually have underestimated, which would honestly be kinda funny.

i took friday off though to do my holiday shopping: the mrs and i hit a local mall, got there around 8:30 (they opened at 8), and 6 highly efficient hours later, we were done. well, mostly done--we didn't get stuff for folks we won't be seeing christmas day, so i figure that's OK. :>

anyway: christmas day also happens to mark my wife's birthday, and that fact, coupled with the fact that our families live close to one another, mean that much as like during thanksgiving, we'll be shuttling b/n the 2 households. indeed, we'll likely be doing that today, too, come to think of it...

o right, and today i get to see my sister again for the first time since midsummer: she's been teaching in paris this whole semester and she got back thursday. :>

well, that's all that's new & exciting going on in my life just now--or at least, all i've got time to talk about anyway. :>

have a merry christmas, guys, to those who observe it!

that sounds fun, Ed, a shopping marathon and yes, quite efficient if you think about it! Do get some great stories from your sisters experience in Paris as my daughter has visions of that kind of grandeur in her teaching future....

ed, in my younger days as database programmer, i always tended to underestimate the time needed to finish a project. the couple of times i finished on time, i considered it a miracle ... :-)

merry christmas to you my friend, and happy birthday to your wife.

A piece of advice that I have learned over the years: estimate a project and double
the estimate ... then add 24 hours. Then you may not have to ask for so much more
    time.

I was just wondering why you celebrate Christmas. It is Jesus's birthday celebration,
and, as I understand it, you are not a believer. Of course, I have known many who
celebrate even though they have other beliefs. Like Jehovah's Witnesses. They think
Christmas is a pagan holiday so they make up other excuses to give their loved ones
gifts. Frankly, I am ready to start a branch of Christianity that does not exchange
gifts at Christmas. Or, at best, you give gifts to people you do not know, like homeless
people, people in nursing homes, or children of people in prison. The whole commercial
deal at Christmas is getting me down.

So I will just say Happy Holidays.

I wish you and your family a very happy holiday, Ed. Does your wife hate having her birthday on Christmas? Or does she love it?

    Merry Christmas.

u-i: o, quite busy, no question! i'll be back properly next week after new year's, i think.

alyss: and (belatedly) to you too, my friend. :>

infernal: it's taken me a while, but i'm at least checking up on this blog entry, anyway... :> a belated merry christmas, and thank you. :>

kyle: thank you, i will tell her. i trust your christmas was OK?

alien: thank you, i've surveyed a bunch of friends who have consulted in IT and that sounds quite similar to what they recommended. to answer your question: i celebrate it b/c our respective families do. so happy holidays to you and yours. :>

polar: why thanks! of course, i hope your christmas was a good one too, and her b-day was indeed fun, thanks again! :>

    jenna: and to you! :D

GS: and a belated merry christmas to you! her b-day was quite fun--and we're not even done celebrating it! :D

jack: my thanks! she both loves and hates it, to be honest--i mean, it's a wonderful holiday, but at the same time, how would you feel if your b-day was never observed in its own right, you know?

CW: and a belated merry x-mas to you! :>

destiny: thank you! i hope yours was good too! :>

rollingc: always a pleasure to see you, sir. :> i want you to know that even in spite of the number of blogs/comments i read, yours is the first comment i've ever seen to include an actual smiley character, rather than an emoticon. well done! :>

    w-t: and to you! :>

WH: aw, thank you so much! and thank you for being such a fun and entertaining blogger to read!

queen: and to you, little sis! :D

dee: well, i'm back enough to respond to my own blog entries but not really back just yet, i'm afraid. that won't be until next week sometime, i daresay.
