My son and I ventured to Wal-Mart this morning to pick up a few bows, boxes and holiday baking boxes. I didn't plan on buying any gifts because most of my shopping is done, so I didn't worry about having my son along for the ride. But then I saw the enormous remote control vehicles half price!! By enormous, I mean the box won't fit in a shopping cart....takes up half of the back of my Durango...enormous.
My seven year old has wanted one for the last three years. In fact, every time we go to Wal-Mart we have to go to the toy section just to look at them...This is his Red Ryder BB Gun... and it's on sale...half price!!! But there were only five left...and I need two...how can I get them with my youngest son with me?? Is it worth risking and risking ruining the idea of Santa Clause for my three year old??? Oh what do I do!!!
I sent their father a text message at work so my son did not hear me ask him to get them after work. And then went to check out. I asked the cashier how long they would be on sale and she said they just went on sale today so they would be there for at least a week, but she doubted they would last the night. I saw the empty shelves, I saw everyone buying them...I knew they would be gone before the end of the night.
She carried on the usual small talk, laughing and giggling with my son in the cart and then casually asked me if I'd like to take a walk while someone "took care of it" for me somewhere else. She was so good at disguising the conversation that it took me a minute to realize what she was talking about. I didn't answer, I just handed her more money and told her I was going to load my car and I'd see her later.
I loaded my car and told my son I forgot one of my bags. I pulled up out front and saw several cashiers inside the door WRAPPING the enormous boxes before putting inside the bag. They were all smiling, and seemed to enjoy our little secret mission as much as I was! I love when people have the Christmas spirit!!
