I'm really sorry y'all are having a heat wave. OK, maybe not ALL of you, but it sounds like a whole lot of the U.S. and parts of Canada (Hi there, Ontario!) are having a really hard time of it. My mom, who lives in Ontario, was complaining about the temperatures back in march- they were having heat waves while we were digging out from the last of our blizzards! Today is cool and cloudy here, as it has been much of this week. I love it! Not only does consistently "crappy" weather mean fewer headaches for me, it also means I don't have to wear shorts. Yippee! I like to see the sun sometimes (helps a bit with the depression, I think), but this is the weather for me. My favourite season is fall- not for the colours on the trees (though those are nice, too), but for the cooler temperatures. I hate sweating, especially when I didn't do anything foolish, like exercising, to deserve it. Is there anyone out there who actually prefers hot weather? I can't imagine it, but I'm sure some people do. Sick, sick, sick!

Bipolarbear, come to Newfoundland. We have some hot weather in the summer, but not a whole lot- plenty of sunny days, though. Fall lasts forever, winter starts late, and the temperatures are cold, but not as bad as you'd think. We do get a lot of snow, though... I love it, but like I said, I'm a fan of cool, rainy weather!

I live where it is terribly hot. I don't like it when it is quite this hot, that is for sure. But I would have to say overall that I prefer it to be warm. Of course, maybe it is not so much the warmth as it is the sunlight. We don't have a huge contrast in seasons here. The trees don't bloom into a rainbow colors (I love the British spelling with a "u" much more--but I grew tired of my American teachers complaining.). When I lived further north, I would become so depressed that I would come home from school and crawl into bed. When the spring came, I would begin to grow green inside again--verdant with the hope of good things to come. I have lived where I am now for ten years. Although I miss the crispness of the autumn air laced with the scent of hickory; the myriad of scarlet, orange, and gold cloaking the fall trees; the first flurries of winter; the fresh tender buds of spring flowers lush with the scent of rain; What I do not miss is the darkness of spirit that would accompany me--robbing me of the capacity to think & feel productively. I miss the seasons which come with a cooler more temperate climate--but my perpetual misery for half the year was too high a price to pay.

Good point, JadeLondon; and you make it so poetically! Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD- how appropriate!) is a big problem, and it probably affects more people than anyone will ever know. My depression is a year-round thing (lucky me...), but it does get worse as the days get shorter. I think if I moved south, though, I'd be just as bad, because I'd have to be inside during the summer all the time! All I can do right now is make a serious effort to get sunlight on my skin in the winter months. Maybe someday I'll try UV light therapy, but I don't think our insurance covers it.

See, the thing is, if it's cold, you can put on more layers to get warm. When it's hot, you can only take off so much. It's been unbearable for the last few days. I'm now down to my skivvies, pouring the last drops of water in my glass to my chest. It's supposed to be all sexy and stuff, but I just find myself sticky and gross.

There is nothing sexy about sweating, I'm afraid. It looks sexy sometimes on TV, but that's only because you can't smell those people...

LOL. Well Grape depending where yo are, you CAN take off everything when it's miserably hot. But then once you get down to nothing to take off and it's still miserably hot ther is not much you can do. Fall is my favorite time of year--cooler temperatures, the changing colors of the leaves, fires in the fireplace if the night is nippy enough, hot mulled cider, hot cocoa. But, I am also a fan of warm weather--usually in the 80 degree range. Actually, I don't mind higher temperatures, as long as it's not humid. My in-laws who live in the Salt Lake Valley were complaining that it was 104 with 20% humidity. I just rolled my eyes because we were at 95 with nearly 70% humidity, which IMHO is much, much worse.

Mmm... I do like the changing of the seasons. To be honest, I like all seasons. It's just these extremes that make it difficult. I do like four clearly defined seasons. Winter, too. I like to be the first set of footprints on a fresh field of snow. It makes me feel like an astronaut or something...(Thinking about snow helps a little) Well, depending where you are, relief could be on the way. It's pouring out here now. Temp seems to be going down, too. So if the midwest is seeing some relief, I imagine those of you out east are next.

it's uncanny to hear people complain about heat wave. here in my country, it's heat wave almost every day. it is so hot, hot, hot. fortunately we have gotten used to it. electric fans. the ac. going under the tree shade. taking showers 3 times a day. ice cream and popsies yum. no excuses for us here, just grin and bear it. tomorrow's another hot day.
