I stand on the distant hill alone,
Watching you walk away -
Knowing I cannot follow.
I feel as heavy as a stone
Why I’m here I cannot say,
And it’s a bitter pill to swallow.
To me it seemed we’d always be together,
As thick as thieves –
No one could break our bond.
Forever birds of a feather
But now your boat leaves
And I’m left in my small pond.
I grudge you not it’s only
Natural that you would spread your wings
And soar above me as I wait -
Waiting is oh so lonely –
For my own wings so I can sing
My own song and flee my fate.
