You probably think this post is about another subject. Well, sorry if I disappoint you, but here's my actual question.

I was in the men's room a few minutes ago, and another gentleman was also there. Now, before your mind runs away with all sorts of 'unrelated' scenarios, let me explain.

As I was washing my hands after 'doing my business', I heard the other gentleman pumping the lever of the towel dispensor at least 10 times. I then walked over to the dispensor and pumped the lever my normal 3 times. 3 is exactly the right number on any dispensor, it seems, to give me the right amount of paper to properly dry my hands and not waste any.

So, my question is, how many times to you pump the lever on the hand towl dispensor?

heck, the "other" question might have been more fun.

I usually use 6 pumps on the towel dispenser.  I'm fanatical about getting every inch of my hands dry.

unique - hmm, maybe i'll do that post tomorrow? ;-0 and does it take that much paper to dry them adequately? that's a sincere question, not a judgement.

I think so. (need that much)  I take the extra minute to dry between my fingers and I wash my hands to and inch or two above the wrists.  The towel seems to be pretty damp/wet when I toss it.

well then, i'd say you've adequately used your allotment of hand towel. pat yourself on the back for a job well done :-)

usually i get 2 pieces, and both times i find 2 sufficient. i sorta half-dry with the first piece, and final dry with the second.

silver - you are an efficient and frugal man. interestingly enough, when it's individual sheets, i take 3 also.

I'm pretty sure you are the first person to ever ask this question. I'm a bit of a paper towel freak. I like to get a huge bundle of it so my hands get really dry without little bits of paper sticking to them. But I don't believe I've ever counted my paper towel pumps. Probably a lot of them. Next time, I'll have to count and let you know :-P

I just blow on my hands to save a couple trees  :-/  LoL

Takes about 2 pumps to get one decent sized paper towel out, and I use 2 paper towels cause I'm a bit of an efficiency expert.

    sudden - LOL! that's hillarious!

lfb - i guess i kinda fall in line with you on that thought, that's why i set a number of pumps years ago. so that would be 4 for you then?

travelr712: hello again! i must say, when i first read through this post, i had to wonder who wrote this because i thought i was the only one who thought about this stuff. I  mean, when i'm in a public bathroom and this tiny woman takes 10 sheets of papertowel i have to wonder if she realizes what a waste that is? or you get the lovelies who don't take any at all! ew! but to answer your question, 2 is usually a sufficent amount for me, it does depend however on how big the sheets are. If they are larger then maybe just one?

    Like you, 3 times. Consistently.

I've never counted. Probably 4 times though. That's a good guess.

stitch - hello, and sorry it took me so long to respond, i thought this post was dead. i think of all kinds of wierd stuff, but don't usually write about it. and yeah, the ones that don't at all, ewww! pt - 3 times a charm, right? :-) box - i'm thinking that between 3 and 4 is pretty normal then. god, how'd i end up on the 'normal' scale? sudden :-P right back atcha!

Damnit, Travelr!  It's all your fault!  8~P

For four days now, every time I go into the washroom I am now "counting" every time either I, or another, "pumps".  It's not only with the paper towels, either. Have you ever considered how many times people pump the soap dispenser?  AHhhhhhh!  LOL

Oh, and by the way, I'm a 4.  (Kinda reminds me of that sleep-number bed thing.  "What's your pump number?")  And from the averages I've now statistically surmised - the average pumps in the ladies room is 5 for paper towels and 3 for soap.

One interesting observation I made . . . when given the choice, most choose pumping over blowing.  Now THAT's surprising. ;~O  LOL

and i guess i do have a way of getting inside people's head and sturring it around a bit. sorry for the intrusion. :-)
